Who Knew Not Joseph

From a village in the Land of Goshen, a brilliant but physically challenged boy named Yoram manages to make his way into the heart of ancient Egypt. Firsthand, he witnesses the changing culture of the Children of Israel and the different mindsets of the pharaohs who ascend to the throne. Connecting the dots between the two histories, Yoram lives through the passions and frustrations that prevail as the weaker young nation falls inevitably into subjugation. This fascinating novel covers the history of the Hebrew nation from its peak of contentment to its descent into slavery. Through Yoram’s eyes and tribulations, Who Knew Not Joseph presents a real picture of the human side of that first holocaust. It tells how there indeed came a pharaoh who knew not Joseph (Exodus 1:8).

Infidelity's Fool

Infidelity's Fool, by author Mannie Magid, explores the peaks and valleys of a 34-year old marriage. Written from the perspective of a physician, this richly textured narrative treats the reader to a poignant and personal account of love, loss, and forgiveness. Len and Gertrude meet in 1971 and marry soon after. In their home town of Jacobsburg, Len goes to medical school and Gertrude enters college. Their lives fast track to success when Len becomes the Chief of Medical Staff in a prestigious hospital. Len's achievements shape his inflated ego, and he has an affair. Meanwhile, Gertrude is coming to grips with learning that she has breast cancer. After treatment, the two manage to save their marriage, but Len's infidelity comes back to haunt him when 34 years later he suspects that Gertrude is having an affair. Tragedy strikes again and Len and Gertrude learn just how important their marriage is and what they must face in order to rediscover what brought them together so many years ago. Magid's beautifully written story strikes at the core of human anguish, the grief of losing a loved one, and the regrets that plague the human spirit.

This book brings together an engaging study, using Emmanuel Ghent’s collected papers, of theoretical and personal origins of the relational turn in psychoanalysis. Emmanuel Ghent was one of the founders of relational psychoanalysis, and his ideas have been hugely influential. However, he published sparingly and his papers are scattered across a range of sources. In this book, his key writings are reproduced, along with analyses and critiques by major contemporary psychoanalytic figures such as Adam Phillips, Jessica Benjamin, Seth Warren, Adrienne Harris and Barry Magrid. This book provides a thorough examination of the key tenets of Ghent’s thinking and illustrates the continued importance of his theoretical and clinical work for the next generation of psychoanalysts.

Large format, six-volume set "Jewish Life in the South African Country Communities" is a multi-year project, researched by the South African Friends of Beth Hatefutsoth. Concisely written by a team of researchers with another team collecting photographs, each of the volumes in this projected series of six books focuses on specific regions and the Jewish communities therein. The researchers visited major libraries and archives, as well as smaller research facilities, all over South Africa. They conducted oral interviews with many present and past residents and used the proverbial fine-toothed comb to search the back issues of the London Jewish Chronicle and other historical papers for relevant items. The aim of this research is to have a permanent record of the Jewish communities in the dorps (country towns) of South Africa.
