Pathfinders
Written by Joseph Abram, this book presents and fully documents the last buildings and a selection of projects of Devanthery and Lamuniere's works. The text focuses on the creative process of the architects, the design methods, the architectonic development and cultural background of the key aspects of their architecture. The book is beautifully designed by Dominique Emmenegger in continuity with the first monography Fo(u)r Example(s), 1996. Photographs by Fausto Pluchinotta document the buildings, projects, as well as the drawings, models, and objects which surround and give depth to the quality of Devanthery & Lamuniere's built projects.
Danger in Paris
In 1988, Vanderbilt University professor John Page and his wife, Julie, move to Paris to accept a one-year teaching appointment. He decides to take advantage of his European location and do some research into his mothers life in Paris in the 1920s. He meets an old friend of his mothers, who refers him to some of their French circle. Excited to find so many good clues into an enduring family mystery, he and Julie meet several of his mothers friends in Paris. Issues in Vowel Harmony
Vowel harmony is a well known phonological phenomenon found in a large number of languages spoken mainly in Eurasia and the African continent. In simple terms, vowel harmony is a law which governs the co-occurrence of vowels within a span of utterance, nearly always the word. The contributions of this volume focus on various (not always uncontroversial) aspects of vowel harmony that include typological investigations, phonetic/acoustic experimental studies, descriptions of individual systems, genetic and historical ramifications, and implications for a variety of theoretical models. This volume will prove to be a useful guide to the multifaceted issues posed by an often discussed and quite significant phonological process. This volume will stimulate further discussion and better understanding of the issues raised by the intricate process called vowel harmony.
