Myanmar is a country situated in continental Southeast Asia and most parts of the country are highlands forming as watersheds of country's drainage systems. These highland watersheds are usually clad with tropical forests of different types providing productive and protective functions essential for sustainable development of the country. Accordingly, sustainable forest management has to be adopted as a standard approach for effective watershed conservation whereas timber production guided by sustained yield principles would be one of the overriding objectives. Four case studies provide some useful insight into resolution for some technical problems of the prevailing strategic challenges in sustainable forest management for effective conservation of forest watersheds of the country.

Europe - Space for Transcultural Existence? is the first volume of the new series, Studies in Euroculture, published by Göttingen University Press. The contributions are survey articles or report on recent work by the authors, for exemple new results on the famous Leopoldt conjecture."
"The Internet has enabled new forms of large-scale collaboration. Voluntary contributions by large numbers of users and co-producers lead to new forms of production and innovation, as seen in Wikipedia, open source software development, in social networks or on user-generated content platforms as well as in many firm-driven Web 2.0 services. Large-scale collaboration on the Internet is an intriguing phenomenon for scholarly debate because it challenges well established insights into the governance of economic action, the sources of innovation, the possibilities of collective action and the social, legal and technical preconditions for successful collaboration. Although contributions to the debate from various disciplines and fine-grained empirical studies already exist, there still is a lack of an interdisciplinary approach"--Publisher's description.
As new technology and opportunities emerge through the revolutionary impacts of the digital age, the function of libraries and librarians and how they provide services to constituents is rapidly changing. The impact of new technology touches everything from libraries' organizational structures, business models, and workflow processes, to position descriptions and the creation of new positions. As libraries are required to make operational adjustments to meet the growing technological demands of libraries' customer bases and provide these services, librarians must be flexible in adapting to this fast-moving environment. This volume shares the unique perspectives and experiences of librarians ...

Without a doubt Karl Marx’ philosophical work had a huge impact on “western” concepts of society and economics that still reverberates in the philosophical discourse. In the analysis of this ongoing discourse however the work of Chinese scholars is underrepresented. This book is a translation of the reference work «Back to Marx» first published in 1999 in the PRC. The book is a serious inquiry into the interrelationships between Marx‘s political and economic philosophy, based on careful and systematic reading of a wide range of textual sources, including—in particular—the newly published second edition of the Complete Works of Marx and Engels (MEGA2), which collects notes, drafts, manuscripts, and excerpts previously unavailable to the scholarly community. The author Zhang Yibing teaches philosophy at the University of Nanjing and is one of the foremost scholars of Marxism in the PRC, a Marxist analyst of contemporary philosophical issues. At the same time he is the Vice Chancellor of the University.
The war in Syria has lasted for many years and continues to cast a dark shadow over its people, including healthcare workers caring for those injured and in distress. During the war, healthcare workers have been exposed to unprecedented challenges, becoming targets of bombing, killing, siege, arrest, and torture. Moreover, healthcare workers continue to experience difficult situations that require them to make decisions with no clear or easy moral choice. The present study aimed to understand the experiences of healthcare workers and the difficulties and challenges that hinder applying existing ethical frameworks and codes for disasters within Syria’s context of revolution and war. Qualita...
This edited volume comprises contributions to the international conference on the “Scientific Framework of Environmental and Forest Governance – The role of discourses and expertise” which was organised by the Chair of Forest and Nature Conservation Policy of the Georg-August-University in Göttingen/Germany in August 2007. It accounts for the increasing attention of the governance concept in environmental and forest policy research. The volume in detail addresses the role of discourses and expertise within the overall conceptual framework of governance, both from a theoretical and empirical point of view in environmental and forest related policies. It concludes that new modes of governance seem to represent a fruitful environment in which discourses and expertise - and their interactions - can be seen as important aspects for the analysis of policy processes.
