Can Christian community be good for you, me and everyone else? How do we deal with our sin? How do we learn to forgive? How can we raise up the next generation in Christ? The Christian gospel transforms every aspect of our lives. If we don’t understand that, we don’t understand Christianity. The Centre for Christian Living, which operates out of Moore Theological College in Sydney, aims to bring biblical ethics to everyday issues—taking the theology and knowledge of God and showing how it shapes and directs every aspect of our daily lives. To that end, we have compiled this annual, which collects some of the material from our activities during 2021: essays from our public events (which were all on the theme of “community”), highlights from our podcast and articles by members of our student team at Moore College. Holy Ground
Jesus did not say "take and think." He said "take and eat." This is embodied worship. It includes gestures, rites, kneeling, raising hands, and of course eating and drinking a holy meal with God. These activities are liturgies. Liturgy is the physical, embodied activity of worship--it's what we do in worship--everyone has a liturgy! As such, worship is the church's primary means of discipleship. Instead of fearing to kneel because it's "Roman Catholic," or fearing to raise your hands because it's "Pentecostal," perhaps we should simply see what God recommends in the Scriptures--then without fear and by faith (at the appropriate time) start kneeling, raising our hands, and eating a covenant meal with God (on a weekly basis). The hope is to replace a fear-driven approach to worship with a faith-driven, embodied worship that offers deep, robust, and beautiful worship experiences combined with the hope of great blessings. In doing so, we hope for nothing less than a new reformation--a reformation in worship.
SHEPHERDS & SERVANTS
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) model of leadership is pervasive within the fundamentalist movement of churches. This model of leadership lacks biblical warrant and creates risk to the flock of God. Consequently, not only is targeted research necessary but also a path to transition a church from the CEO model of leadership to the Shepherds and Servants model. This book offers the redemptive, theological, and practical approach for such a transition. Redemptively, the book shows how the Shepherd and Servants model is part of God's ultimate plan. Theologically, the Shepherds and Servants model is prescribed by scripture. Practically, steps for transition are presented for moving a fundamentalist church from a top-down model to a healthy, biblical model of leadership.
