Reasoner’s Now Shown Mercy is the first commentary in 500 years that returns to the quadriga (literal sense plus threefold spiritual sense) in its exegetical approach. The commentary shows how Paul understands Israel to be valued by God for its own sake, not simply as a type of the church or a preparation for the Christ. Paul views Israel as under God’s mercy even as he writes Romans chapters 9–11, grieving as he is over both Israel’s political subjugation in the first century and its spiritual condition. Since these chapters show that God values Israel for its own sake, the commentary’s exegesis calls gentile believers to heed anew Paul’s warning against boasting over Israel.
Paul did not write a systematic theology or specific church doctrines when he wrote Romans. His audience was Roman Christians, and his last will was to preach the gospel to all, especially gentiles in Spain. Through this letter, Paul wants to pave the way for a visit to Rome and expects their support on his mission trip to Spain. The question is this: What kind of the gospel does he want to share with them? The central aim of the Gospel of Mark is to introduce the reader to Jesus Christ, the Son of God. In this book, MacDonald examines not just what the Gospel writer says, but also how he says it. When the Gospel of Mark is examined as a complete work, and the motifs of allegiance, opposition, and misunderstand are traced through the narrative, Mark is seen to be a rather sophisticated literary work. The Gospel writer is not simply a compiler of tradition, but one who shaped his narrative for specific rhetorical aims, namely, that his audience--both ancient and modern--would recognize Jesus as the Son of God and respond to him with allegiance.

Too few Christians today, says Joshua Jipp, understand hospitality to strangers and the marginalized as an essential part of the church's identity. In this book Jipp argues that God's relationship to his people is fundamentally an act of hospitality to strangers, and that divine and human hospitality together are thus at the very heart of Christian faith. Can the real Paul the apostle live again in a postmodern, technological age? Paul’s ministry stood at the very headwaters of the Christian gospel surrounding Jesus of Nazareth. His letters are the earliest documents contained in the New Testament. The current work calls upon the reader to actively engage Paul in his context, rather than to affirm the assumed theological Paul of later Christian orthodoxy. The reader is thus invited to walk with a more real Paul as he may be imagined from the sources we have, to think Paul’s thoughts with him through his letters, and to more fully experience the gospel of God that Paul knew and proclaimed. Paul was a “man in Christ” directly called by God to announce the gospel of God to both Jew and gentile in the midst of a world ruled by Rome. He did so through two major campaigns, rather than “three missionary journeys.” He wrote pastoral letters to real first-century churches. The real Paul did not write theology, but he rather proclaimed a gospel to a world in search of a soul.
