O movimento de pessoas como elemento de ligação histórica entre Portugal e os países da América Latina é a razão pela qual o número se divide entre os portugueses que partiram para a América Latina e os latino-americanos que escolheram viver em Portugal. Esta edição é, portanto, um número de dupla face, que compreende o fenómeno migratório no seu conjunto, olhando, ao mesmo tempo, para as duas direcções (emigração/imigração) e para as duas perspectivas (a da origem e a do destino) de um mesmo movimento.

A Emergência das Migrações no Feminino
A presença crescente das mulheres nos fluxos migratórios de e para Portugal foi um dos dois aspetos da imigração em Portugal a que o Fórum Gulbenkian Migrações dedicou a sua atenção em 2010/2011. O fórum baseou-se na realização de um conjunto de workshops em que participaram atores do terreno, representantes das comunidades de imigrantes, agentes das entidades oficiais e académicos e teve por finalidade fazer um diagnóstico da situação das migrações no feminino e apresentar uma série de recomendações sobre o tema dirigidas aos responsáveis públicos, às organizações da sociedade civil e aos próprios migrantes. O presente volume dá precisamente conta da investigação, do debate e das recomendações sobre as migrações no feminino produzido pelo Fórum sob a coordenação de Pedro Góis e José Carlos Marques, ambos do Centro de Estudos Sociais da Universidade de Coimbra.
