Shodou okolností je to člověk, k němuž před nedávnem Erika Falcková zanesla nacistický železný kříž, který našla v truhle po své matce. Chtěla, aby jí o něm jako expert na druhou světovou válku něco víc řekl. A z matčiných deníků, které ležely v truhle spolu s německým vyznamenáním, dále po učitelově smrti vyčte, že v dětství a mládí patřili do stejné party. Když Erika vyhledá další z matčiných přítelkyň z mládí a ta je krátce nato zavražděna, nedokáže uvěřit, že by se mohlo jednat o shodu náhod. Někdo se snaží něco utajit. A jeho tajemství musí být asi strašlivé, když je ochoten kvůli němu vraždit.
