L'estudi del municipi borbònic de Xàtiva i el procés de la seua instauració i consolidació després de la Guerra de Successió permet conèixer, des de la perspectiva del canvi polític local, aquest període decisiu de la història valenciana. D'aquesta manera, s'aborda el desenvolupament, al llarg del Set-cents, de les noves institucions borbòniques a Xàtiva, ara Sant Felip, com el corregiment i l'ajuntament. I això a través d'un detallat estudi tant del procés normatiu que la Corona va utilitzar, com de la lluita política pel poder de les elits i oligarquies urbanes que van aplicar el nou projecte de règim municipal. Una transformació de les institucions del poder local que, després de les improvisacions inicials, va acabar consolidant-se amb èxit.
