This new volume of the collection presents the anatomical regionof the thorax. It describes the most common surgical procedures, for instance the thoracotomy or the placement of a thoracic drainage; and also the most complex ones like the placement of a transvalvular patch, the extraction of oesophagic foreign bodies, tracheal collapse treatment or innovative techniques such as cardioplasty in idiopatic megaesophagus cases. The high quality of its images, some of them come with diagrams and illustrations, allow an accurate description of the pathologies and their etiology.

The Möbius Strip explores the history, political economy, and culture of space in central Guerrero, Mexico, during the colonial period. This study is significant for two reasons. First, space comprises a sphere of contention that affects all levels of society, from the individual and his or her household to the nation-state and its mechanisms for control and coercion. This volume provides, for the first time, a pan-European view of the development of written languages at a key time in their history: that of the 16th century. The major cultural and intellectual upheavals that affected Europe at the time - Humanism, the Reformation and the emergence of modern nation-states - were not isolated phenomena, and the evolution of the orthographical systems of European languages shows a large number of convergences, due to the mobility of scholars, ideas and technological innovations throughout the period.

This study examines whether the existing aid processes widely used by donors and NGOs are effective in tackling poverty and exclusion and shows how the fast changing aid sector has encouraged the mainstreaming of a managerial approach that does not admit of any analysis of power relations or cultural diversity.
Papers presented at NIPS, the flagship meeting on neural computation, held in December 2004 in Vancouver. The annual Neural Information Processing Systems (NIPS) conference is the flagship meeting on neural computation. It draws a diverse group of attendees--physicists, neuroscientists, mathematicians, statisticians, and computer scientists. The presentations are interdisciplinary, with contributions in algorithms, learning theory, cognitive science, neuroscience, brain imaging, vision, speech and signal processing, reinforcement learning and control, emerging technologies, and applications. Only twenty-five percent of the papers submitted are accepted for presentation at NIPS, so the quality is exceptionally high. This volume contains the papers presented at the December, 2004 conference, held in Vancouver.
