The book starts with basic overview of physical phenomena on laser-matter interaction. Then it is followed by presentation of a number of laser applications in the nano-particles and thin films production, materials examination for industry, biological applications (in-vitro fertilization, tissue ablation) and long-range detection issues by LIDARs.
"An ideal text-reference for professionals and students in electrical engineering, electro-optic engineering, and computer chip design..."--back cover.
These proceedings of the World Congress 2006, the fourteenth conference in this series, offer a strong scientific program covering a wide range of issues and challenges which are currently present in Medical physics and Biomedical Engineering. About 2,500 peer reviewed contributions are presented in a six volume book, comprising 25 tracks, joint conferences and symposia, and including invited contributions from well known researchers in this field.
Annotation "This resource gives professionals an in-depth look at the technological developments fueling the drive to the realization of ubiquitous IT services. Based on the proceedings from the International Symposium on New Frontiers for Ubiquitous IT Services, this unique volume describes a wide range of state-of-the-art engineering advances in photonics, sensing, electronics, micromechatronics, networks, and communication schemes, introduced by some of the leading pioneers in the field."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. Despite the high precision of laser, it remains challenging to control the laser-bone ablation without injuring the underlying critical structures. Providing an axial resolution on micrometre scale, OCT is a promising candidate for imaging microstructures beneath the bone surface and monitoring the ablation process. In this work, a bridge connecting these two technologies is established. A closed-loop control of laser-bone ablation under the monitoring with OCT has been successfully realised.
Revised and expanded for this new edition, Smart CMOS Image Sensors and Applications, Second Edition is the only book available devoted to smart CMOS image sensors and applications. The book describes the fundamentals of CMOS image sensors and optoelectronic device physics, and introduces typical CMOS image sensor structures, such as the active pixel sensor (APS). Also included are the functions and materials of smart CMOS image sensors and present examples of smart imaging. Various applications of smart CMOS image sensors are also discussed. Several appendices supply a range of information on constants, illuminance, MOSFET characteristics, and optical resolution. Expansion of smart materials, smart imaging and applications, including biotechnology and optical wireless communication, are included. Features • Covers the fundamentals and applications including smart materials, smart imaging, and various applications • Includes comprehensive references • Discusses a wide variety of applications of smart CMOS image sensors including biotechnology and optical wireless communication • Revised and expanded to include the state of the art of smart image sensors
Publishes papers reporting on research and development in optical science and engineering and the practical applications of known optical science, engineering, and technology.
