The countries in Central and Eastern Europe have undergone far-reaching economic and social changes over the last 15 years. This makes way for new conditions for new living spaces. In the economically flourishing state of Slovenia, which became a member of the EU in 2004, architecture production has developed with great optimism but also with a discernible bit of concern. Questions concerning the maintenance of the quality of life and the identity of cities, villages and landscape planning are of great interest at the moment. Slovenia's new architecture is taking a new approach to these problems and receiving great international recognition. The book discusses around 30 projects built over the last 10 years and includes descriptions, photos and plans. The projects include administration and office buildings, as well as educational and residential buildings.
Art and its Responses to Changes in Society
Art and its Responses to Changes in Society brings together studies of young researchers dealing with the topics of decline, transformation, and rebirth from various points of view, characteristic of several different fields of the humanities and social sciences, in order to yield new insights into the analyzed subjects. The topics discussed here are diverse: on the one hand, several chapters deal with the metamorphosis of particular pictorial or architectural motifs and concepts, while on the other, studies are included that are dedicated to the analysis of the opera of individual artists, to various periods in architecture and landscape architecture, and to national and state commissions in art, as well as representations of WW2 atrocities in Yugoslavia and attempts to artistically reaffirm Christian symbolism after the end of socialism. As such, the book entails diverse scientific perceptions of art and society, from antiquity to modernity, from architecture to moving picture, from the USA to Yugoslavia, and from research on an object to observations on a concept.

Agency
Now is not a time for metaphorical sticking plasters or vanity projects, it is a time for change and a time for action. The mandate of architects and urbanists today goes way beyond designing buildings, it includes changing behavior, influencing and impacting policy, and building bottom-up agency with new understandings of value, justice, and cultural production. This task is best achieved by sharing not just strategies but also practice – completely openly and freely. This sixth volume in the Archifutures series for the Future Architecture platform, therefore, focuses on emerging narratives and strategies that can help architects adapt their practice towards more effective agency in order to meet the greater, more universal tasks that are upon all of humankind. The projects featured here show ways forward in addressing ecological destruction, racial injustice, housing inequality, and landscapes of conflict. They point to new modes of design practice, rethinking what it means to be “an architect” in a world of spatial injustice.

Constructing Europe
As a part of the activities that will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture - Mies van der Rohe Award, this catalogue explains the value of the Prize as a platform for discovery and debate about two main topics: the historical value of the Prize as a demonstration of the significance of European architecture, and the Award's role as a mechanism for bringing up topics of concern in today's European architecture, and as a process that contributes to building an architectural and urban discourse, both in Europe and throughout the world. The works of the last 25 years are essential tools for defining the future in the upcoming years.
Garden and Metaphor
Never before had the garden to fulfil so many demands as it does today. It is a refuge from digitalised life and acts as a bridge to nature. As a man-made place where plants grow, it is cultivated and untamable at the same time. While for centuries the gardener's ambition was to control and subjugate nature, today it serves more as a place for retreat, a possible surrogate for wilderness, a habitat for animals or it fulfils the dream of self-sufficiency.
