Written by Lorenza Mazzetti, the first woman film director ever to be funded by the BFI, London Diaries/Free Cinema is the unique story of the birth of Free Cinema in London. It describes the making of Together (1957), a neglected masterpiece of British Free Cinema. The book introduces key figures of Free Cinema, such as Lindsey Anderson, and outlines the struggle of a young Mazzetti to find her way in London. Lorenza Mazzetti came to London in 1956 after her family were killed by the Nazis at the end of the 2nd WW. Her struggle to survive is beautifully and poetically reprised in this marvellous diary. Penniless she worked in cafes, got herself into the Slade Art School, and became the first woman to ever get a BFI grant to make a film. The book records both the traumas and the triumphs of making your way in a foreign country, and reflects on the powerful hold that history exerts on an individual, and how a new destiny can be created. Beautifully written it is a gem that has been hidden for a long time. (This is the first English publication of the book).

In this book, chemical studies are described mainly from literature reports appearing since 2000, inclusive of investigations performed by the present authors, on the diversity in secondary metabolites of Ligularia growing in the Hengduan Mountains area of China, focusing on eremophilane sesquiterpenoids and other metabolites. More than 100 Ligularia species and their related genera in the plant family Senecioneae plants (Cremanthodium, Cacalia, Senecio, and others) grow in East Asia. For many years, researchers have studied the chemical constituents of these plants, and terpenoids, flavonoids, steroids, alkaloids, and aromatic compounds have been isolated. Among these, in particular, numerous sesquiterpenoids were reported. Within this book terpenoids and aromatic compounds (total 1049), both previously unknown and known, are presented. Finally, genetic studies and synthesis investigations are briefly reviewed.

Bon and Naxi Manuscripts
The present volume offers a dozen studies of manuscripts of the Tibetan Bon and Naxi Dongba traditions across time and space. While some of the contributions focus on particular features of manuscripts from either tradition, others explicitly bridge the two by considering common codicological and material aspects of selected examples or common themes in the content of the texts. This is the first primarily object-based study to deal with the cultural history and technology of books from the two traditions. It discusses collections of Bon and Naxi manuscripts, the concepts and history of both traditions, the science and technology of book studies as it relates to these collections, the relationship between text and image, writing materials, and the historical and archaeological context of the manuscripts’ places of origin. The authors are specialists in different fields including philology, anthropology, art history, codicology and archaeometry. The contributions shed light on trade routes, materials and technologies as well as on reading practices and ritual usage of Bon and Naxi manuscripts.
