Bait and Switch
Exclusionary notions of American national identity have been endemic since the country’s founding. Since the Culture Wars, they have returned with vengeance. One of their champions is a new generation of tech savvy activists known as the Alt-Right. This is a movement that embraces a vision of America that is unapologetically white and Christian supremacist, misogynistic and xenophobic. Rather than see the Alt-Right as an outlier, the authors of this book treat it as an integral part of an endemic battler over the articulation of American national identity. Critically, what distinguishes these cyber warriors from other far-right movements is their rhetorical style. Their far-right counterparts employ muscular rhetoric and demand the right to dominate. The Alt-Right, on the other hand, has opted for a weapons-of-the-weak strategy and accuses adversaries of persecuting them. Embracing a cult of victimhood, this shift in rhetorical tactic is not only a matter of gaslighting; its goal is to justify potential acts of violence.

Beyond Sentidiño: New Diasporic Reflections on Galician Culture is an interdisciplinary study of Galician literature, languages, and cultures. The volume brings together essays from fields across the humanities and social sciences to foster a discussion that incorporates new concepts that, as of now, are not part of the imaginary of Galiza: gentrification, language imperialism, youth unemployment, deruralization and deindustrialization, media control, technocapitalism, and gender and sexual normativity. It also serves to moderate a conversation about how independence from the political, material, and sociocultural networks of autonomic Galiza allows diasporic scholars to think of Galician culture in a de-essentializing manner. Working and living in the diaspora provides a lens through which to unmask the hegemonic neocolonial and neoliberal representation and reproduction of Galicianness promoted by different social, political, and mediatic powers.

Fresh Perspectives on Major Issues in Pragmatics
This book showcases new and innovative developments and approaches in pragmatics, spotlighting perspectives from an international range of emerging scholars undertaking cutting-edge research pushing the field in new directions. The volume begins by taking stock of the most up-to-date developments in pragmatics research, as embodied by the work of a newer generation of pragmaticists. Chapters are organized around key areas of development within pragmatics, including intercultural and cross-cultural pragmatics, cognitive pragmatics, and new perspectives on referencing, implicating, and inferring, shedding further light on the ways in which pragmatics increasingly interfaces with other linguistic disciplines and on innovative methodologies. The book also places the focus on pragmatics approaches in languages other than than English, further expanding the borders of research. Contextualizing Pragma-Dialectics
Contextualizing Pragma-Dialectics contains a selection of 18 article reporting on research conducted in the past decade in which the institutional context in which argumentative discourse takes place is systematically taken into account. Some articles provide relevant theoretical backgrounds, other articles make clear how the extended pragma-dialectical theory can be used to analyse and evaluate argumentative discourse in specific institutional contexts. Next to argumentative discourse in the legal domain and the medical context of health communication, a great deal of attention is paid to various argumentative practices in the political domain or dealing with specific social issues. A contribution on multimodal argumentation is also included. All contributing authors are actively engaged in the International Learned Institute for Argumentation Studies (ILIAS).
