Gideonse is a retired university and Federal administrator. Writing from the coast of Maine, he muses on his encounters with nature, friends, love, his pets and others', family, public service, and the like. These are every day matters, to be sure, but the poems explore universals; they seek to suggest commonalities in the lives of those who read them. Mickey, a memoir of short stories, was written by Ray Mickey McCoy. As he documented these memories during the last two years of his life, his intent was to compile them into a book for his descendants. The book details his boyhood obsessions with scientific experiments which often ran amuck, laughable experiences during basic training just prior to the end of World War II, and finally his career in the space program during the Apollo era. The stories are light reading and mostly humorous. An underlying theme expressed throughout the book is Mickey's belief that neurosis can be a good thing after all. This refers to the fact that his childhood obsessions became the foundation for his career in the space program, as well as a lifetime of meaningful experiences and happy memories.

Until the age of 31, Donald McDonald was only ''dirty little Mickey from The Corner, '' the notorious intersection of Toronto's Jarvis and Dundas Streets in a neighbourhood known in the 1930s as ''Gangland.'' After Mickey was charged with the January 1939 murder of bookmaker Jimmy Windsor, he became a national crime figure. What followed were two murder trials, a liquor - truck hijacking, a sensational three - man escape in 1947 from Kingston Penitentiary, and a 50,000 dollar bank robbery.According to police, as gleaned from underworld informants, Mickey was killed in the 1950s in the United States ''by his own criminal associates.''
