'The book is well-written and makes a significant contribution to the development of the principles and practices of dealing with agri-environmental problems. It is of relevance to a wide circle of readers, including researchers and politicians but also students and others concerned with agri-environmental issues.' - Stefanie Engel and Ulrike Grote, Quarterly Journal of International Agriculture '. . . the book has the potential to provide something for everyone.' - Stefan Bäckmann, European Review of Agricultural Economics Although the history of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) is dominated by a process of centralisation, growing pressures to integrate agri-environmental problems into the CAP have revealed the need to embrace decentralised approaches in an efficient federal structure. The transformation of rural areas and the broadly understood problems of their development have been the subject of scientific analyses and lively public debate for many years. Population explosions have always pushed India into many deep-rooted socio-economic bottlenecks. India is home to one third of the globe’s poverty-ridden and hunger-prone population, despite the undoubted availability of and access to food grains. This study explores the causes of and solutions to the prevalence of hunger and malnutrition at the grassroots level. Although India’s spending on protecting its boundaries has increased massively, there does not seem to have been as much emphasis on protecting its citizens. There can be no doubt that food security involves the simultaneous growth in demand and supply of food grains. As such, the book analyses the supply-side background behind the accomplishment of food security. It explores the nature, prospects and challenges ahead for Indian agriculture. Food grain production can be enhanced on a par with increasing demand only when hurdles confronting agriculture are addressed.

Niezależny Samorządny Związek Zawodowy „Solidarność” powstał, bo chcieli tego polscy pracownicy. To masowe protesty latem 1980 roku, poprzedzone dziesięcioleciami zrywów i prześladowań, przesądziły, że komunistyczna władza wreszcie się ugięła, zezwalając robotnikom na powołanie własnej i niezależnej reprezentacji. Powstał wyłom, który w niespełna 10 lat doprowadził do rozpadu żelaznej kurtyny, zmieniając oblicze Polski, Europy i świata. W 40-lecie tych przełomowych wydarzeń musimy pamiętać i ciągle podkreślać, że NSZZ „Solidarność” rodził się w całej Polsce dzięki odwadze, poświęceniu i ofiarom tysięcy – często bezimiennych – ludzi. ...
