El actual sector de la construcción es el responsable a nivel global de casi el 40 por ciento de las emisiones contaminantes, el 30 por ciento de los residuos sólidos y el 20 por ciento de la contaminación de las aguas. El presente libro se aproxima, de manera divulgativa, al potencial de la arquitectura como activo ambiental para hacer frente a estos impactos en el marco de los objetivos establecidos por la Unión Europea para el año 2050. Desde un planteamiento interescalar, se abordan el clima y el territorio como aspectos clave en cualquier solución urbana y arquitectónica; la ciudad y su entorno paisajístico como la escala adecuada para la gestión de los impactos del cambio climático; las personas y su actividad como centro alrededor del cual se establecen nuevos patrones culturales y de habitabilidad; y por último, se explica el origen vernáculo de la arquitectura como referente para una arquitectura responsable a nivel cultural, social, económico y ambiental hacia la que debemos transitar colectivamente.
