T'rific

Since his overnight success over thirty years ago, after appearing on national TV in The Comedians, Mike Reid has remained one of Britain's most popular and best-loved comics. His popularity soared to new heights when he was asked to appear as pub landlord Frank Butcher in the BBC TV soap EastEnders. Born in Hackney, East London in 1940, Mike began a life of 'ducking of diving' to earn money almost as soon as he could walk. He managed to avoid a police record until, aged sixteen, he was caught red-handed ram raiding a jewellers shop. The result was two years correction in an approved school in Wales. At seventeen he fled a disastrous teenage marriage and joined the Merchant Navy, where he go...

A blue plaque is a recognized symbol of the United Kingdom's national heritage; a living footprint of history, with each one serving as a permanent reminder of an important contribution to the history of the country. The blue plaques commemorate notable, influential, and successful people from all walks of life. They are erected in the present to celebrate the past and inspire the future. This book covers one hundred blue plaques and shares the people and stories behind them, from across the United Kingdom, each linking, through a common denominator, to the next. From David Bowie to William Shakespeare, these plaques run the gamut, commemorating kings, actors, singers, explorers, footballers, cricketers, writers, inventors, scientists, politicians, musicians, reformers, broadcasters, songwriters, comedians, pioneers, artists, soldiers, athletes, dancers, activists, poets, and educators. From Lennon and McCartney to the victims of Jack the Ripper, this is an eclectic representation of British life, as told through blue plaques, from the 1500s to the present day, and accompanied by hand-drawn illustrations and a foreword by Earl Spencer.

The pitch is the absolute essence of modern business. Ideas are the most valuable commodity in the modern economy and it is human skill which develops them. However the skills of the pitch are not only relevant to the world of business, rather they apply to just about every significant personal transaction in your life... So whether at a sales conference in corporate conference room hell or over lunch at a glamorous restaurant, Life's a Pitch tells you how to handle human transactions. A pitch is not a meeting, it's a drama. A pitch is not about transferring information, it's about transferring power. It is business, but it is also theatre. Part inspirational manual for business, part guidebook to a successful and happy social life, Life's a Pitch is written as the result of an accumulated half century of (mostly successful) pitching by the authors. Ground-breaking and genre-busting, it will transform the way you think about the art of persuasion for ever.

I assure you, this book is more than a simple compilation of "just words"; the title is merely a modest reflection of its ever so humble author. On his behalf, I declare, there is an abundance of inspiration for change within these pages--to do better, be better, and to encourage the "better" in others, that it may be stirred up and shared with the world. Written to raise awareness regarding many troubling, yet routine facets of every day issues within the lives, hearts, minds, and communities of people everywhere, this book is the perfect prescription for its time, and will surely offer a healing for many types of individuals. There is something for everyone inside-- the broken-hearted, the glamorous, the used and abused, the hustlers, the under appreciated hard workers.
