EBOOK: DYSLEXIA

What are the distinctive characteristics of dyslexia? How much progress has been made in discovering the causes of dyslexia? What are the latest ideas on ways in which dyslexics can be helped? It is just over a hundred years since Dr Pringle Morgan published his famous account of Percy, a boy of 14 who could 'only with difficulty spell out words of one syllable', who wrote his name as 'Precy' and 'did not notice the mistake until his attention was called to it more than once'. Yet 'the schoolmaster who taught him for some years says that he would be the smartest lad in the school if the instruction were entirely oral'. Dyslexia: A Hundred Years On is an overview of the field. It traces the h...

Dyslexia and Mathematics

Dyslexia is seen primarily as a limitation in the ability to deal with symbolic material. As far as the symbols of mathematics are concerned, therefore, special teaching techniques are needed, just as they are for the teaching of reading and spelling. The book contains a wealth of material on individual cases and on children of different ages. Two central themes are discussed: first, that dyslexics need to carry out the operations of adding, dividing, and so on, before being introduced to the symbolism; and second that, because of their difficulties with rote learning, they need to be shown the many regularities and patterns which can be found in the number system. All the contributors have had experience of teaching dyslexic children at various levels.

In the Moonlight

Three months ago, Aspen Troy’s life changed forever when she became a vampire and broke the ancient curse that’s plagued the Draven clan for centuries. Except, when they discover only she can successfully create new vampires, it’s clear the curse hasn’t been lifted. Now Aspen has a choice to make—turn innocent people in the name of saving those who have already lived more lifetimes than any person should, or refuse, and risk all of them being killed by the Twelve vampire clans. As if this choice isn’t hard enough, Vanesa Draven tries to force Aspen’s hand by kidnapping someone she can’t afford to lose for leverage. The decision is hers. And either way, people will die because of it. In the Moonlight is the compelling second book in the Nightfall paranormal vampire romance series.

Death at a Diner

Diners can prove hazardous to your health. Although Palmer Baxter hasn’t lived in the small town of Bradley long, she’s already become a force to be reckoned with. She’s joined all the clubs in town and has effected a takeover of many of them. Palmer is married to a handsome banker, is perfectly coiffed and outfitted, and volunteers for groups that serve the needy. Needless to say, Palmer is extremely unpopular in her new hometown. Unpopularity doesn’t ordinarily equate to murder, but it does in this instance. When octogenarian sleuth Myrtle and her senior sidekick Miles venture out for an early breakfast at the local diner, they make the startling discovery of Palmer’s demise. Will Myrtle and Miles find the killer before disaster strikes again?
