This book constitutes thoroughly refereed post-conference proceedings of the 8th Asian Symposium on Computer Mathematics, ASCM 2007, held in Singapore in December 2007. The 22 revised full papers and 5 revised poster papers presented together with 3 invited lectures were carefully selected during two rounds of reviewing and improvement from 65 submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections on algorithms and implementations, numerical methods and applications, cryptology, and computational logic.

Getting Started with MuPAD
No book is born in a vacuum. There must always be somebody who needs the book, somebody who will read and use it, and somebody who will write it. I walked with the idea of this book for a long time. However, its final concept came into reality during my lectures, in February 2005, at the Universiti Malaysia Sabah in Borneo. I realized that my students needed a bit more than just my lectures. They needed a text that they could follow during lab sessions or after classes so they could learn at any time, at their own pace. Practical Geometric Pattern Design
This book is third in a series of textbooks on geometric pattern design used at the Istanbul Design Center. It is intended as a tutorial book for 30 hours basic course on geometric patterns in Islamic arts. The content of this book covers some major areas of geometric pattern design. In chapter 2 we discuss how one can approach a complex geometric pattern. It is the most important part in understanding the general structure of any pattern. In chapter 3 we discuss and experiment with patterns built on triangular grids and square grids. This is the simplest group of geometric patterns and usually neglected. In chapters 4 and 5 we deal with 6 and 12 fold patterns. These are the patterns with local symmetries D6 and D12. Usually, we refer to them as hexagonal and dodecagonal patterns. In chapters 6 and 7 we discuss octagonal patterns. Here we also briefly discuss differences between eastern (Central Asia and India) and western octagonal patterns (Morocco and Spain). Finally, in chapter 8 we discuss briefly decagonal patterns, i.e. patterns with D10 local symmetries. MuPAD Pro Computing Essentials
This book explains basic principles of MuPAD commands. It teaches how to write simple programs and develop interactive environments for teaching mathematics. The text gives a large number of useful examples from different areas of undergraduate mathematics developed by the author during his long teaching experience. All the book examples are available online. Flash, SVG and JVX formats are used to display interactive and animated graphics.
