An oblong, leather volume with a metal clasp closure. The volume is comprised of culinary and medicinal recipes, weights and measurements, directions for making an ice house, and geography. The volume was written by Joseph and Ellen Gilbert of Derbyshire, England and spans the years from 1812 to 1863. Standard units of weights and measures for ale, apothecary items, cloth, height, land, time, and wool are included. Additionally, are practical agricultural measures for a haystack, irregular shaped fields, and a water trough.
