The Agricultural industry is always at risk - crops are affected by weather, diseases and pests. When a global pandemic hits suddenly, it becomes very difficult to manage various processes because most are not digital. In parallel, the rapid increase in the population and urbanization, demands more food production on less land. Farming under the demand pressure by increasing input consumption, leads to increases costs and negative impacts to the environment such as decreasing soil fertility continuously over time. There is therefore the need to move beyond traditional farming. To produce more yield in the agricultural field, there is the need to dig deep into the technological field and apply sensors, Internet of Things (IoT), big data analytics, cloud computing and machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) techniques. Better decision making, prediction and reliability depend upon high level of knowledge base and perceptions.
The introduction of digital technology in the healthcare industry is marked by ongoing difficulties with implementation and use. Slow progress has been made in unifying different healthcare systems, and much of the world still lacks a fully integrated healthcare system. The intrinsic complexity and development of human biology, as well as the differences across patients, have repeatedly demonstrated the significance of the human element in the diagnosis and treatment of illnesses. But as digital technology develops, healthcare providers will undoubtedly need to use it more and more to give patients the best treatment possible. The extensive use of machine learning in numerous industries, inc...
An increased incidence of hypospadias is found globally, and the current management techniques and research studies of hypospadiology face significant challenges and limitations. This book sheds light on the recent struggles encountered in hypospadias-related clinical practice and research methodologies. Various writings were incorporated by people on different disciplines linked to the overall phases of diagnosis and care of hypospadias patients. Special attention is given to new perspectives from different interrelated disciplines trying to overcome these obstacles. This book fills in a void in the new related discoveries traditionally given scant consideration in the currently dominated literature. It provides a useful source for the recent updates, ongoing controversies, and future research trajectories in hypospadiology, which benefits pediatric, plastic, reconstructive, and urology surgeons and trainees and helps examiners focus on updated materials.
This is a collection of recent advances on sensors, systems, and signal/image processing methods for biomedicine and assisted living. It includes methods for heart, sleep, and vital sign measurement; human motion-related signal analysis; assistive systems; and image- and video-based diagnostic systems. It provides an overview of the state-of-the-art challenges in the respective topics and future directions. This will be useful for researchers in various domains, including computer science, electrical engineering, biomedicine, and healthcare researchers.
In this era of sedentary lifestyles and disruption, sports science can propose solutions to human health matters. There is no doubt about the positive impact of sports on the physical as well as mental health of an individual, by extrapolation to the society at large. But with the advent of the latest technologies in the sports domain, the body of knowledge about sports science and human health is reaching new heights. The “Sports Science and Human Health - Different Approaches” book aims to expose worldwide research and development works in an explicit manner. Readers will appreciate the diversity of the topics, ranging from the use of machine learning in sports science to the psychological impact of sports and sports for peace initiatives. A large section is dedicated to wearable devices like biomechanical devices to gauge motor skills, and other smart devices to assess player performance. Beyond awareness, the multidisciplinary nature of this book is a source of inspiration for the scientific community.
Object detection is a basic visual identification problem in computer vision that has been explored extensively over the years. Visual object detection seeks to discover objects of specific target classes in a given image with pinpoint accuracy and apply a class label to each object instance. Object recognition strategies based on deep learning have been intensively investigated in recent years as a result of the remarkable success of deep learning-based image categorization. In this book, we go through in detail detector architectures, feature learning, proposal generation, sampling strategies, and other issues that affect detection performance. The book describes every newly proposed novel...
Food security is one of the primary themes of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. In this regard, agricultural engineering is considered the backbone of agriculture, and agricultural mechanization is considered a helpful way to enhance crop yield and farmers’ profitability. Technology in Agriculture presents research in the field of agricultural engineering technologies and applications in agricultural equipment engineering, biosystem engineering, energy systems engineering, and computers in agriculture. It provides an overview of recent advancements in agricultural engineering and examines key aspects of emerging technologies and their applications. In addition, the book explores modern methodologies such as artificial intelligence and machine learning for agricultural mechanization.
This book presents the results of the successful Sensors Special Issue on Intelligent Vehicles that received submissions between March 2019 and May 2020. The Guest Editors of this Special Issue are Dr. David Fernández-Llorca, Dr. Ignacio Parra-Alonso, Dr. Iván García-Daza and Dr. Noelia Parra-Alonso, all from the Computer Engineering Department at the University of Alcalá (Madrid, Spain). A total of 32 manuscripts were finally accepted between 2019 and 2020, presented by top researchers from all over the world. The reader will find a well-representative set of current research and developments related to sensors and sensing for intelligent vehicles. The topics of the published manuscript...
