The Struggle of the Shi‘is in Indonesia is a pioneering work. It is the first comprehensive scholarly examination in English of the development of Shiism in Indonesia. It focuses primarily on the important period between 1979 and 2004 – a period of nearly a quarter of a century that saw the notable dissemination of Shi’i ideas and a considerable expansion of the number of Shi’i adherents in Indonesia. Since Islam in Indonesia is overwhelmingly Sunni, this development of Shiism in a predominantly Sunni context is a remarkable phenomenon that calls for careful, critical investigation. There is also an important examination of the principal ideas underlying the Madhab Ahl al-Bayt, the I...

The necessity for innovative solutions is critical in the pursuit of a sustainable future, as the rapidly urbanizing world confronts climate change, biodiversity loss, and public health concerns. The concept of blue and green infrastructure is a game-changing innovation. Blue and green infrastructure provides a solution to urban planning by strategically incorporating natural and engineered aquatic features – blue infrastructure – with vegetation and green spaces – green infrastructure. This approach addresses environmental, social, and economic challenges, and improves water quality, reduces urban heat islands, and mitigates flood risks, enhancing urban resilience. It also fosters bio...

In this biography Nico J.G. Kaptein studies the life and times of Sayyid ʿUthman (1822-1914), the most prominent Muslim scholar of his era in the Netherlands East Indies. During his long career, he provided guidance to the Muslim community and from 1889 onwards simultaneously served the colonial government as advisor for Muslim affairs after the famous C. Snouck Hurgronje had engaged him. Based on an analysis of his writings, Kaptein focuses on the question of how Sayyid ʿUthman viewed the place of Islam in the colonial state and the many reactions this provoked, both nationally and internationally, e.g. from the Cairo-based reformist Rashid Rida. PEMIDANAAN TERHADAP ANAK DISERTAI PUTUSAN PENGADILAN

  • Categories: Law
