This book reveals the feelings of a young child who witnessed her parents' divorce with its ""landmark"" custody decision, resulting in a mother/daughter relationship that played havoc with both their lives. The story begins in1939 and tracks almost 60 years of family dysfunction that ended in a surprising way. The title Love Never Comes Late actually reprises the first words her mother said as she came out of her detox at age 87. The author started this book in the 1990's but tabled it because her mother was still alive. Folding the older text into this one, the author now provides more timely insights about the breakthrough that healed their relationship on the eve of her mother's death. As a child of divorce, the author offers a hopeful example for those emotionally damaged by divorce, abandonment and alcoholism. The book shows how grace, understanding and forgiveness can present another possibility that may seem unlikely or unattainable.

The Swallows and Amazons is a series of twelve adventure novels set in the interwar period, involving group adventures by children, mainly in the school holidays and mainly in England. They revolve around outdoor activities, especially sailing. The series begins with the Walker children from London, who stay at a lakeside farm in the school holidays, sail a dinghy named Swallow, while the local Blackett girls, living on the opposite shore, have one named Amazon. The Walkers see themselves as explorers, while the Blacketts declare themselves pirates. They clash on an island in the lake, make friends, and have a series of adventures that weave tales of pirates and exploration into everyday life in rural England. Jersey Gold

When gold fever struck in 1849, John S. Darcy—prominent physician, general, and president of the New Jersey Railroad—assembled a company to travel overland to California. In Jersey Gold, Margaret Casterline Bowen and Gwendolyn Joslin Hiles tell the story of that colorful company of some thirty stalwarts and adventurers. Jersey Gold chronicles the experiences of the New Jersey argonauts from their lives before the gold rush to the widely varying fortunes each ultimately found. Animated by the trekkers’ own words and observations and illustrated with maps, photographs, and drawings by one of the company’s own men, Jersey Gold follows the Newark Overland Company’s journey by rail, sta...
