The Oxford Handbook of the European Iron Age
The Oxford Handbook of the European Iron Age presents a broad overview of current understanding of the archaeology of Europe from 1000 BC through to the early historic periods, exploiting the large quantities of new evidence yielded by the upsurge in archaeological research and excavation on this period over the last thirty years. Three introductory chapters situate the reader in the times and the environments of Iron Age Europe. Fourteen regional chapters provide accessible syntheses of developments in different parts of the continent, from Ireland and Spain in the west to the borders with Asia in the east, from Scandinavia in the north to the Mediterranean shores in the south. Twenty-six thematic chapters examine different aspects of Iron Age archaeology in greater depth, from lifeways, economy, and complexity to identity, ritual, and expression. V drugem zvezku (osebnosti s priimki na črke B–Bla) Novega Slovenskega biografskega leksikona v 257 geslih nadaljujemo s predstavitvijo najvidnejših slovenskih in s Slovenijo povezanih osebnosti iz vseh obdobij naše zgodovine. Glavna odlika leksikona je izčrpen in sorazmerno obsežen opis življenja in dela osebe. The Geography of Slovenia
This book is the first to give a comprehensive and detailed overview of the complete geography of Slovenia in English. Only very few countries, even considerably larger ones, can boast the landscape diversity found in Slovenia since the Alps, the Pannonian Basin, the Dinaric Alps, and the Mediterranean meet and interweave in this small corner of Central Europe, as do Germanic, Hungarian, Slavic, and Romance cultural influences. Zbornik v 18 prispevkih predstavlja rezultate arheoloških in etnoloških raziskav zadnjih desetih letih v slovenskem visokogorju, po večini s planin v Kamniško-Savinjskih in v Julijskih Alpah. Prikazani so najnovejši dokazi o prisotnosti človeka in gospodarski izrabi prostora v prazgodovini, antiki in srednjem veku. The finds and preserved grave groups from its tumulus cemeteries, which are kept in several museums in different countries (Narodni muzej Slovenije, Ljubljana~Naturhistorisches Museum, Wien~Peabody Museum of Harvard University in Cambridge, USA), give a good insight into the cultural and social processes of the time.
