Test, measurement, and evaluation data are not viewed as a panacea for music education, but there is little question that the use of valid and reliable data from such can provide music teachers, administrators, counselors, and therapists with both broader and stronger bases for decision making relevant to music instruction and learning. Judicious use of these data ultimately will facilitate instructional improvement, increase students' learning, and foster students' positive affective/aesthetic experiences through music.
Attention and Memory brings together and assesses past and present research on information processing, to formulate a model of this entire system.
In this book, you will find that, no matter how challenging the relationship with your children is right now, there is still time to change your reality. Telma Abrahão addresses from the importance of self-knowledge to deal with children and having more emotional balance to a strategy to circumvent more challenging behaviors such as tantrums, difficulties in collaboration and lack of responsibility. She also travels back to the parents' childhood and shows how moments from the past can be repeated unconsciously and profoundly affect the way they educate their children, in addition to addressing themes that are fundamental to strengthen bonds of love and connection with children and pre-teens...
Tuning, Timbre, Spectrum, Scale focuses on perceptions of consonance and dissonance, and how these are dependent on timbre. This also relates to musical scale: certain timbres sound more consonant in some scales than others. Sensory consonance and the ability to measure it have important implications for the design of audio devices and for musical theory and analysis. Applications include methods of adapting sounds for arbitrary scales, ways to specify scales for nonharmonic sounds, and techniques of sound manipulation based on maximizing (or minimizing) consonance. Special consideration is given here to a new method of adaptive tuning that can automatically adjust the tuning of a piece based its timbral character so as to minimize dissonance. Audio examples illustrating the ideas presented are provided on an accompanying CD. This unique analysis of sound and scale will be of interest to physicists and engineers working in acoustics, as well as to musicians and psychologists.
"Aggressive behavior during childhood and adolescence is an important risk factor for later serious and persistent adjustment problems in adulthood, including criminal behavior, school dropout as well as family-related and economic problems. Researchers have thus deployed considerable efforts to uncover what drives individuals to attack and hurt others. Each chapter explores the issue of aggression with an introduction, theoretical considerations, measures and methods, research findings, implications, and future directions"--
How to rewire your brain to improve virtually every aspect of your life-based on the latest research in neuroscience and psychology on neuroplasticity and evidence-based practices Not long ago, it was thought that the brain you were born with was the brain you would die with, and that the brain cells you had at birth were the most you would ever possess. Your brain was thought to be “hardwired” to function in predetermined ways. It turns out that's not true. Your brain is not hardwired, it's "softwired" by experience. This book shows you how you can rewire parts of the brain to feel more positive about your life, remain calm during stressful times, and improve your social relationships. ...
