Two travelers uncover the legend of Prince Draculas treasure, but their research into the Romanian past could awaken much more than just royal riches. Legend claims that bloodthirsty Romanian prince Vlad Dracula left a treasure behind after his death. A fifteenth-century woodcut reveals the harbingers of this treasure: rings of blue flame that rise from the ground only on St. Georges Eve. The woodcut is also believed to harbor an evil curse that has kept weaker souls away and the treasure as yet uncovered. Ben Florand and Manda Murrow are on holiday in Romania during their spring break. On the second day of the Dracula Tour through Bucharest, they come upon a young girl lying at the edge the...

Underwater Medicine and Related Sciences

This volume follows and updates AN ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY ON DIVING AND SUBMARINE MEDICINE published by Gordon and Breach, Science Publishers, Inc., in 1971. The time period covered is primarily the calendar years 1970 and 1971. Also included, however, is much material from the calendar years 1968 and 1969 not in the previous publication. A brief analysis of the sources of material precedes the citations and abstracts, which comprise the main section of the volume. The bibliography is followed by a permuted subject index and an author index. Also included, following the indexes, is a micro thesaurus. Although no attempt has been made to do a critical subject analysis, such an analysis could be accomplished through selecting a particular subject, looking up the appropriate key works in the rotated index, identifying the abstracts, analyzing them, obtaining complete copy as desired, and completing the critical review. Developments in Diving Technology

Up to about 30 years' ago diving activity was centred primarily on the naval services, who provided a lead in the development of equipment, techniques and procedures. Apart from one or two spectacular salvage undertakings, the main commercial activity up until that time was fairly low-key work in docks and harbours. The concept of saturation diving emerged from subsea habitats of which Captain Cousteau was one of the pioneers. This led the way to commercial development in support of exploration and the production of offshore oil and gas, and I believe that my friend Henri Delauze was one of the first to mount the subsea habitat on deck and provide a sealed bell to convey divers from the habi...

Fifty years ago, in November 1947, Brown & Root helped Kerr-McGee build the first out-of-sight-land offshore platform that produced oil. The date is widely celebrated as the birth of the modern offshore industry. In the years since this historic occasion, Brown & Root has continued to pioneer in the design and construction of offshore pipelines and platforms. Along with the rest of the offshore industry, the company has helped develop technology capable of finding and producing oil in deepwater and in harsh environments around the world. This history puts a human face on the process of technological change. The world has finally shifted from magician's rule to human rule. This expulsion of enchanted dictators was not without consequence. The new world has brought with it a horde of obstacles including the persecution of magicians, flamboyant insurrection, and the formation of a societal underbelly teeming with unbridled resentment for the human-dominated state. "Ibrahim" explores the shifting dynamics of two friends who find their roles of benefactor and recipient have been reversed in response to the changing times.
