Medieval wars in the Duchy of Schleswig 1410 to 1432
King Erik VII of Pomerania (1382 -1459) ruled over a vast area, the Nordic Union, which included the kingdoms of Denmark, Sweden, Finland, and Norway, Iceland and Greenland. The union was later named the Kalmar Union. Erik of Pomerania conducted two wars for the quest of the duchy Schleswig against the Holstein Counts. He was not successful and in the end the nobilities in his countries expelled him. The book is for the readers interested in medieval history and the conflicts of that time. Literature about the contemporary European rivalries is extensive especially the -100 Years War- but when it comes to the conflicts of the Scandinavian countries, books in English are more limited. In many aspects the Scandinavian conflicts are similar to the rivalry between England and France. This book will remedy some of this shortage.

Det er nu 150 år siden, at Danmark blev angrebet af Prøjsen og Østrig, og på "slagtebænk Dybbøl" grundigt slået af den overlegne prøjsiske hær, med tab af mange danske soldaters liv. 1864 er et traume i dansk historie. Hele 1800- og 1900-tallet var der forskellige opfattelser af begivenhederne. Nogle skuede fremad under mantraet - "hvad udad tabes skal indad vindes". Andre havde holdningen - "hvad skal det nytte". Hvordan oplevede deltagerne i krigen 1864 de mange strabadser? En af den danske hærs dygtige generaler faldt på Dybbøl slagmark. Denne bog beskriver general du Plats liv fra hans første år i København, hans familie og hans officerskarriere. Han deltog, som dansk officer, i de to slesvigske krige. Bogen beskriver også hans død på Dybbøl den 18. april 1864. Du Plat var også udstationeret i Rusland, hvor han deltog i den russiske tsars erobring af Kaukasus. Bogen indeholder ligeledes en beskrivelse af hans deltagelse i disse russiske militære operationer.
