The Transfer of Sin
According to the apostle Paul, Christ was made sin. What does this mean: can sin be transferred? Was Christ punished? At the end of the 17th century, in the so-called Third Antinomian Controversy English and Dutch Reformed theologians discussed the concept of imputation in its interrelationship with forgiveness, punishment, and justice. This study helps you to understand their complex and fascinating theological and philosophical reflections. Because these same themes had already been extensively discussed in the preceding century in the context of debates against Socinianism, the Antinomian Controversy is framed within an interconfessional and international context, highlighting the significance of Socinians and Hugo Grotius.
From Canonical Criticism to Ecumenical Exegesis?
This study explores and compares the role of the canon in the work of Brevard S. Childs, James A. Sanders, Peter Stuhlmacher, Joseph Ratzinger/Benedict XVI, and the Amsterdam School of exegesis, thus offering a broad overview of approaches and perspectives within the spectrum covered by canonical criticism. In doing so, both the theory of canonical criticism offered by each of the five is analysed and a sample of an actual exegesis is discussed. Observing that the interplay between text, reader, and community of interpretation is key to all of these approaches, the study proceeds to create a dialogue between canonical criticism and ecumenical hermeneutics, which leads to a proposal for an approach to exegesis that integrates elements of canonical hermeneutics, ecumenical hermeneutics, and intercultural perspectives.

In Pandora's Box Opened, however, Roy Harrisville argues that despite the evils brought upon biblical interpretation by the historical-critical method, there is still hope for it as a discipline. Finally, Harrisville commends the historical-critical method, though shorn of its arrogance. He claims that the method and all its users comprise a "Pandora's Box" that, when opened, releases "a myriad other pains," but hope still remains.
