A new association for the study of the Septuagint was formed in South Africa recently. The present collection is a compilation of papers delivered at the first conference of this association, as well as other contributions. The volume addresses issues touching on the Septuagint in the broad sense of the word. This includes the Old Greek text (Daniel, Proverbs, Psalms and Lamentations) as well as the reception of the LXX (NT, Augustine and Jerome, etc.). A few contributions that may be regarded as miscellanea are nevertheless related to matters Septuagintal (Aristeas, Peshitta, Eunochos).
In the interwar period art revealed itself as part of the social and ideological order. The work of art became a point of intersection for the modern, unstable and ambiguous world. Works of art produced in these decades reflect a range of discourses on power and subjectivity. They contribute to the foundation of the post-war development of aesthetic pluralism and point out the socially conditioned framings of the Fine Arts. During the last decades, research in the field of interwar art has reworked and reconceptualised existing notions on the period. This book offers four new approaches which also contribute to reflections on methodological questions regarding the changes in the disciple of Art History since the early 1970s. Este trabajo colectivo, recopilación de unas Jornadas conmemorativas sobre el pintor belga René Magritte en su centenario, pretende introducir al lector profano en lo que supuso para el hombre del siglo XX el surrealismo en general y Magritte en particular. Una aproximación general a la convulsa primera mitad del siglo nos adentra en el contexto cultural e ideológico en que se movió Magritte. Luego, se aborda la pintura poética del pintor en el contexto literario para pasar a examinar con detenimiento, y con la ayuda de las tres etapas de Ch. S. Peirce, algunos de los elementos reiterativos y presentes en los cuadros de Magritte. Se añade la traducción de algunos textos escritos por el propio Magritte en donde expone su singular concepción de su arte pictórico.
This book contains the contributions to an international symposium on Charles Sanders Peirce (1839-1914). Notwithstanding that much of Peirce's philosophical writings still are to be published, his contributions to contemporary philosophy can be felt in almost every field. The symposium was held at the Institute of Philosophy of the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in May 1997. Its express aim was to examine Peirce's thought in terms of both its historical integrity and in the application of his thought to current problems.
