Growth Market Nanotechnology

With its assessment and linking of study reports into a coherent narrative, this book accurately describes the technological and economic opportunities of nanotechnology in all important sectors of industry affected. As such, it provides an in depth-analysis within the context of product groups and lead markets on the international level, with the focus on Germany. Much cited internationally, Gerd Bachmann applies a so-called method mix to avoid the weaknesses of other studies conducted purely using quantitative research methods, which leave too many white spots to enable an accurate analysis. Also includes proofs for market potential based on patent data.

In particular, the impact of the 'Social Chapter' to the Maastricht Treaty is considered. The study

The Political Economy of Trust

Trust and cooperation are at the heart of the two most important approaches to comparative politics - rational choice and political culture. Yet we know little about trust's relationship to political institutions. This book sets out a rationalist theory of how institutions - and in particular informal institutions - can affect trust without reducing it to fully determine expectations. It then shows how this theory can be applied to comparative political economy, and in particular to explaining inter-firm cooperation in industrial districts, geographical areas of intense small firm collaboration. The book compares trust and cooperation in two prominent districts in the literature, one in Emilia Romagna, Italy, and the other in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. It also sets out and applies a theory of how national informal institutions may change as a result of changes in global markets, and shows how similar mechanisms may explain persistent distrust too among Sicilian Mafiosi.

The Silver Market Phenomenon

TheSilverMarketPhenomenon In the developed countries, the dominant factor in the next society will be something to which most people are only beginning to pay attention: the rapid growth in the older po- lation and the rapid shrinking of the younger generation. Aging populations are a major consideration for socio-economic development in the early 21st century. This demographic change is mainly seen as a threat rather than as an opportunity to improve the quality of human life. Aging population is taking place in every continent of the world with Europe in the least favourable situation due to its aging population and reduction in economic competitiveness. Economic Foundations for Creative Aging Policy offers public policy ideas to construct positive answers for ageing populations. This exciting new volume searches for economic solutions that can enable effective social policy concerning the elderly. Klimczuk covers theoretical analysis and case study descriptions of good practices, to suggest strategies that could be internationally popularised.
