Technological innovations, customer expectations, and economical situations have been forcing the dairy industry to adapt to changes in technologies and products. The goal of this book is to present some new approaches on dairy processing. It will provide several applications on the use of some novel technologies in various dairy products, the improvement of functionalities and quality systems of dairy products, and the advances in dairy wastewater treatment. The book will be useful for both practicing professionals and researchers in the dairy field. I would like to send my sincere thanks to all the authors for their hard work and contributions.
For people and governments around the world, the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic seemed to place the preservation of human life at odds with the pursuit of economic and social life. Yet this simple alternative belies the complexity of the entanglements the crisis has created and revealed, not just between health and wealth but also around morality, knowledge, governance, culture, and everyday subsistence. Didier Fassin and Marion Fourcade have assembled an eminent team of scholars from across the social sciences, conducting research on six continents, to reflect on the multiple ways the coronavirus has entered, reshaped, or exacerbated existing trends and structures in every part of the globe. The contributors show how the disruptions caused by the pandemic have both hastened the rise of new social divisions and hardened old inequalities and dilemmas. An indispensable volume, Pandemic Exposures provides an illuminating analysis of this watershed moment and its possible aftermath.
This book constitutes the proceedings of two events held in conjunction with the CAiSE conferences and related to the areas of enterprise, business-process and information systems modeling: the 18th International Conference on Business Process Modeling, Development and Support, BPMDS 2017, and the 22nd International Conference on Evaluation and Modeling Methods for Systems Analysis and Development, EMMSAD, 2017. They took place in Essen, Germany, in June 2017. The focus theme for BPMDS 2017 papers was “Enabling Business Transformation by Business Process Modeling, Development and Support". From 24 submitted papers, 11 were finally accepted and organized by: Non-functional considerations in...
This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed proceedings of seven international workshops held in Stockholm, Sweden, in conjunction with the 27th International Conference on Advanced Information Systems Engineering, CAiSE 2015, in June 2015. The 38 full and nine short papers were carefully selected from 107 submissions. The workshops were the Second International Workshop on Advances in Services Design based on the Notion of Capability (ASDENCA), the Third International Workshop on Cognitive Aspects of Information Systems Engineering (COGNISE), the First International Workshop on Digital Business Innovation and the Future Enterprise Information Systems Engineering (DiFenSE), the First International Workshop on Enterprise Modeling (EM), the First Workshop on the Role of Real-World Objects in Business Process Management Systems (RW-BPMS), the 10th International Workshop on Trends in Enterprise Architecture Research (TEAR), and the 5th International Workshop on Information Systems Security Engineering (WISSE).
The past decade has seen a dramatic increase in the attention paid to the problem of child sexual abuse. Professionals from the social work, mental health, medical, academic, and legal fields are all involved in researching the prevalence, causes, and consequences of abuse. Child sexual abuse in multidimensional: it is determined by forces at work in victims and offenders, in the family, and in the community and society at large. Thoroughly researched, Preventing Child Sexual Abuse surveys incidence and prevalence studies; lists risk and protective factors in abuse; discusses various indicators of abuse; and reports on legislation related to abuse. It reviews preventive programs aimed at children and adults, and provides suggestions for an expanded involvement of parents, professionals, policymakers, researchers, and the general public. In doing so, it provides the information needed to create prevention programs that attack the problem on several fronts at once.
What does it take for a volcanic eruption to really shake the world? Did volcanic eruptions extinguish the dinosaurs, or help humans to evolve, only to decimate their populations with a super-eruption 73,000 years ago? Did they contribute to the ebb and flow of ancient empires, the French Revolution and the rise of fascism in Europe in the 19th century? These are some of the claims made for volcanic cataclysm. Volcanologist Clive Oppenheimer explores rich geological, historical, archaeological and palaeoenvironmental records (such as ice cores and tree rings) to tell the stories behind some of the greatest volcanic events of the past quarter of a billion years. He shows how a forensic approach to volcanology reveals the richness and complexity behind cause and effect, and argues that important lessons for future catastrophe risk management can be drawn from understanding events that took place even at the dawn of human origins.
This book constitutes the proceedings of the BPM Forum from the International Conference on Business Process Management, BPM 2016, held in Rio de Janeiro, September 2016. The BPM Forum aims at gathering papers that showcase fresh ideas and emerging topics in BPM. They have to demonstrate substantial potential for stimulating interesting discussions, even if they are not yet completely matured. This way, 13 full papers were selected from 106 submissions, where each paper was reviewed by four PC members and by one Senior PC member who moderated the discussion and wrote the meta-review. The selected papers in this volume cover topics related to process modeling, process execution and management aspects of the BPM discipline.
This book constitutes the revised selected papers of the scientific satellite events that were held in conjunction with the 15th International Conference on Service-Oriented Computing, ICSOC 2017, held in Málaga, Spain, in November 2017. The ICSOC 2017 workshop track consisted of three workshops on a wide range of topics that fall into the general area of service computing: ASOCA 2017: The Second Workshop on Adaptive Service-Oriented and Cloud Applications ISyCC 2016: The Second Workshop on IoT Systems Provisioning and Management in Cloud Computing WESOACS 2017: The 13th International Workshop on Engineering Service-Oriented Applications and Cloud Services

Olive tree products provide a number of documented presentations of the production and quality of the two most important olive tree products: virgin olive oil and table olives. It is a source that familiarizes readers with recent approaches and innovations that can be introduced in the virgin olive oil extraction and stabilization technology and the preparation of table olives with emphasis on the presence of bioactive constituents. It also describes advances in the methods of checking authenticity and in the evaluation of attributes that may influence consumers' perceptions and preferences. Other topics discussed are squalene, a trove of metabolic actions, pigments, geographical indication, biotechnology in table olive preparation, and recovery of hydroxytyrosol from olive-milling wastes.
