Hitlers Pressechef
Otto Dietrich gehörte als Reichspressechef der NSDAP fast vierzehn Jahre lang zu den engsten Begleitern Adolf Hitlers. Zwischen 1938 und 1945 hatte er zugleich die Funktion des Pressechefs der Reichsregierung in Goebbels' Reichsministerium für Volksaufklärung und Propaganda. Um so erstaunlicher ist, dass seiner Person bislang wenig wissenschaftliche Aufmerksamkeit geschenkt wurde. Stefan Krings konnte für seine biografisch angelegte Studie erstmals auch den persönlichen Nachlass von Otto Dietrich auswerten. Er zeigt, dass sich der eher farblose Pressesprecher durch ehrgeiziges Machtstreben und geschickte Personalpolitik eine starke Position auf dem Pressesektor geschaffen hatte und hier sogar einige Zeit mächtiger war als der zynisch-diabolische Rhetoriker Goebbels. Die jahrzehntelange Fixierung der kommunikationshistorischen Forschung auf die Person Joseph Goebbels wird damit in Frage gestellt.
