Since the dawn of human speech and interaction, there have been conflicts among individuals, regions, and whole nations. Disagreements, miscommunications, no matter the name they take; conflicts will continue to be present in every field of work or study. New technologies such as social media have extended people’s ability to communicate, and therefore dispute, making additional research and practical solutions for resolving conflict all the more necessary. Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Contemporary Conflict Resolution presents theoretical perspectives on the causes of diverse conflicts, approaches novel disputes and the technology associated therein, and provides readers with multifaceted solutions to the myriad of potential arguments and disagreements that arise as part of the human condition. This interdisciplinary publication is a critical resource for researchers, legal practitioners, policy makers, government officials, and students and educators in the fields of political science, communication studies, and business.
The present book brings together experience, current work, and promising future trends associated with distributed computing, artificial intelligence, and their application in order to provide efficient solutions to real problems. DCAI 2023 is a forum to present applications of innovative techniques for studying and solving complex problems in artificial intelligence and computing areas. This year’s technical program presents both high quality and diversity, with contributions in well-established and evolving areas of research. Specifically, 108 papers were submitted, by authors from 31 different countries representing a truly “wide area network” of research activity. The DCAI’23 technical program has selected 50 full papers in the Special Sessions (ASET, AIMPM, AI4CS, CLIRAI, TECTONIC, PSO-ML, SmartFoF, IoTalentum) and, as in past editions, it will be special issues in ranked journals. This symposium is organized by the LASI and Centro Algoritmi of the University of Minho (Portugal). The authors like to thank all the contributing authors, the members of the Program Committee, National Associations (AEPIA, APPIA), and the sponsors (AIR Institute).
This book highlights the latest research on practical applications of computational biology and bioinformatics, and addresses emerging experimental and sequencing techniques that are posing new challenges for bioinformatics and computational biology. Successfully applying these techniques calls for new algorithms and approaches from fields such as statistics, data mining, machine learning, optimization, computer science, and artificial intelligence. In response to these challenges, we have seen the rise of a new generation of interdisciplinary scientists with a strong background in the biological and computational sciences. These proceedings include 21 papers covering many different subfields of bioinformatics and computational biology. Focusing on interdisciplinary applications that combine e.g. bioinformatics, chemoinformatics, and system biology, they are intended to promote the collaboration of scientists from different research groups and with different backgrounds (computer scientists, mathematicians, biologists) to reach breakthrough solutions and overcome the challenges outlined above.
This book features the outcomes of the 16th International Conference on Distributed Computing and Artificial Intelligence 2019 (DCAI 2019), which is a forum to present applications of innovative techniques for studying and solving complex problems in artificial intelligence and computing. The exchange of ideas between scientists and technicians from both the academic and industrial sectors is essential to facilitate the development of systems that can meet the ever-increasing demands of today’s society. This book brings together lessons learned, current work and promising future trends associated with distributed computing, artificial intelligence and their application to provide efficient solutions to real-world problems. The book includes 29 high-quality and diverse contributions in established and emerging areas of research presented at the symposium organized by the Osaka Institute of Technology, Hiroshima University, University of Granada and University of Salamanca, which was held in Ávila, Spain, from 26th–28th June 2019
This book constitutes the proceedings of the 19th International Conference on Practical Applications of Agents and Multi-Agent Systems, PAAMS 2021, held in Salamanca, Spain, in October 2021. The 27 regular and 13 short papers presented in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from 56 submissions. They deal with the application and validation of agent-based models, methods, and technologies in a number of key applications areas, including: advanced models and learning, agent-based programming, decision-making, education and social interactions, formal and theoretic models, health and safety, mobility and the city, swarms and task allocation.
