Hanging On and Rising Up

Hanging On and Rising Up invites readers to enter into key aspects of Christology, making use of women’s perspectives from the Andean Peruvian contexts by using novels by Clorinda Matto de Turner and José María Arguedas. Studying the social, racial, and cultural experiences in challenging contexts, the book confirms the nearness of God in Jesus Christ, who makes hope possible as a sign of resurrection and encourages persons to celebrate it daily.

Caribbean Lutherans

Caribbean Lutherans tells the story of the Lutheran church in Puerto Rico from a Caribbean perspective. Rodríguez intersperses archival research with cogent commentary and personal accounts, highlighting the power and agency of Puerto Rican and West Indian Lutherans amid the multifaceted legacy of Euro-American missionary efforts on the island. Readers may not be surprised to learn that the first Lutheran missionary in Puerto Rico was a Swedish American Lutheran; they may not be aware, however, that his welcome and success on the island were dependent on the hospitality of an Afro-Caribbean tailor from Jamaica. A winding journey of interactions among American Lutheran synods and a growing P...

Engaging Latino/a/x Theologies

Sharon E. Heaney describes how the life-giving interruption of Latin American poets, novelists, artists, and theologians changed her life in a conflict-ridden Northern Ireland. An outsider, in this study she provides an engagement with a stream of theology in the United States she takes to be exemplary. Latino/a/x theology is teología en conjunto (collaborative theology). It models ways to examine complicated and contested histories and identities, and it resists dominant assumptions about theological points of departure in favor of also valuing the everyday as locus theologicus. Identifying major themes and foundational thinkers, alongside more recent developments, Heaney offers an overview and invites readers to further reading, study, and formation. Modelling what it esteems, each chapter closes in conversation with a Latino/a/x leader in the church. The conclusion is written by practical theologian, Altagracia Pérez-Bullard. She affirms, this “is not just an intellectual exercise, . . . this engagement . . . is the practice of our lives as we journey with God and as we journey with one another. . . . It is an exciting journey. It changes us.”

Practicality of Grace in Protestant Theology

These 15 articles were chosen by Testamentum Imperium Founder Kevaughn Mattis with Michael G. Maness from among 163 articles published in the 2011 online journal. Each author was chosen for their expertise and decades of experience in the practice of pastoral care in their unique fields. How the practicality of grace applies in suicide, sex addiction, sexual assault, shame, hospital or prison chaplaincy, even in eschatology and forgiveness is covered by these veterans in the field. The articles touch a broad scope of affliction from physical to moral dilemmas. And part of the choice was not to find from the 163 those who see eye-to-eye. We desired to share the unique expertise. Each author is a weathered captain who has ferried souls across tumultuous waves of grief, confusion, self-control, and internal torment to a port of healing and peaceful victory. T&T Clark Handbook of Election

Offering not only state-of-the-art introductions from Biblical, historical, and constructive theologians, this volume also fosters an inter-disciplinary and cross-confessional conversation, reclaiming the idea of election as a central notion for any retelling of the biblical narrative. Several essays explore the variety of ways in which election is spoken about in the Scripture, drawing on research from the last twenty years that offers a more sophisticated framework than the traditionally theological categories of “elect” and “reject”. The historical part of the volume covers new analyses of Medieval and post-Reformation Catholic and Protestant debates on predestination, while the book's constructive part contributes to contemporary conversations on the relationship between Trinity, Christology, and election, the development of a post-supersessionist understanding of Israel's chosenness, as well as voices from contextual struggles in South America, Palestine, and South Africa.

The whole kingdom had watched her heart break. The last place Lady Wenderley Davis ever expected to find herself after swearing off princes forever was living in a palace with two of them. Even if it is only temporary. And she did agree to it. Kind of. Against her better judgement. But then, she's never been one to hide her heart, nor hold back help from anyone who needs it. And if ever there's a family who need help, it's this one. As two weeks stretch to more, Wenderley throws all she has into showing the princes and their family how to smile again, and she's loving every moment of it. Which is a problem. Because she's very quickly becoming attached, and - as the man she'd rather forget keeps reminding her-the one thing she can't do is stay.
