Geological Disposal
The Complexity of assessing the safety case for a deep geological repository of radioactive waste was the motivation for establishing AMIGO, an OECD/NEA international project on "Approaches and Methods for Integrating Geological Information in the Safety Case". AMIGO is structured as a series of bi-annual topical workshops involving site characterization and safety assessment practitioners with experience in both sedimentary and crystalline rock settings. These are the proceedings of the first AMIGO workshop which was organized in Yverdon-les-Bains, Switzerland on 3-5 June 2003. The main objective of the workshop was to exchange views on building confidence in analysis and arguments that support the safety case using multiple lines of evidence and integrating the work of geoscientists and safety assessors

Radionuclide Retention in Geologic Media
GEOTRAP is the OECD/NEA Project on Radionuclide Migration in Geologic, Heterogeneous Media carried out in the context of site evaluation and safety assessment of deep repository systems for long-lived radioactive waste. Retention of radionuclides within the geosphere for prolonged periods is an important safety function of deep geologic disposal concepts for radioactive waste. The extent to which retention processes can be relied upon in repository performance assessment depends upon the existence of well-established theoretical bases for the processes.
