The New Politics of the Old South

Now in its fifth edition, The New Politics of the Old South is the best and most comprehensive analysis and history of political behaviors and shifting demographics in America’s southern states. Edited by leading scholars Charles S. Bullock III and Mark J. Rozell, this book has been updated through the 2012 elections to provide the most accurate and useful snapshot of the state of southern politics, and the ways in which they have developed over time. The southern electorate is a fascinating, dynamic body politic, and the study of its evolution is paramount to understanding the broader political developments occurring at a national level. While accessible to any interested reader, this edition illuminates the South’s essential and growing role in the study, and the story, of American politics.

Volumes three and four of this monumental work include full entries for all such illustrious names as those of the Cibbers--Colley, Theophilus, and Susanna Maria--Kitty Clive, and Charlotte Charke, George Colman, the Elder, and the Younger, William Davenant, and De Loutherboug. But here also are full entries for dozens of important secondary figures and of minor ones whose stories have never been told, as well as a census (and at least a few recoverable facts) for even the most inconsiderable performers and servants of the theatres. As in the previous volumes in this distinguished series, the accompanying illustrations include at least one picture of each subject for whom a portrait exists.

170 Foundation Studies for Violoncello

Compiled by Alwin Schroeder, a former cellist with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and an experienced teacher, this collection of 80 exercises constitutes the first book of a three-volume set. Schroeder drew upon his extensive experience to create original études for instructing students, and in this work he combines them with several others by his distinguished nineteenth-century European colleagues: Karl Schröder. Ferdinand Büchler, Friedrich Dotzauer, Auguste Franchomme, Friedrich Grützmacher, and Sebastian Lee. The carefully selected studies are arranged in order of increasing complexity, and Schroeder provides suggestions for fingering, bowing, and dynamics. Cello students and teachers will find these exercises a splendid resource for the improvement of technique and performance.

Musizierende »Wunderkinder«
