Fukaya Categories and Picard-Lefschetz Theory

The central objects in the book are Lagrangian submanifolds and their invariants, such as Floer homology and its multiplicative structures, which together constitute the Fukaya category. The relevant aspects of pseudo-holomorphic curve theory are covered in some detail, and there is also a self-contained account of the necessary homological algebra. Generally, the emphasis is on simplicity rather than generality. The last part discusses applications to Lefschetz fibrations and contains many previously unpublished results. The book will be of interest to graduate students and researchers in symplectic geometry and mirror symmetry.

Homological Mirror Symmetry for the Quartic Surface

The author proves Kontsevich's form of the mirror symmetry conjecture for (on the symplectic geometry side) a quartic surface in C .

Symplectic 4-Manifolds and Algebraic Surfaces

Modern approaches to the study of symplectic 4-manifolds and algebraic surfaces combine a wide range of techniques and sources of inspiration. Gauge theory, symplectic geometry, pseudoholomorphic curves, singularity theory, moduli spaces, braid groups, monodromy, in addition to classical topology and algebraic geometry, combine to make this one of the most vibrant and active areas of research in mathematics. It is our hope that the five lectures of the present volume given at the C.I.M.E. Summer School held in Cetraro, Italy, September 2-10, 2003 will be useful to people working in related areas of mathematics and will become standard references on these topics. The volume is a coherent exposition of an active field of current research focusing on the introduction of new methods for the study of moduli spaces of complex structures on algebraic surfaces, and for the investigation of symplectic topology in dimension 4 and higher.

Applied Superconductivity

This wide-ranging presentation of applied superconductivity, from fundamentals and materials right up to the details of many applications, is an essential reference for physicists and engineers in academic research as well as in industry. Readers looking for a comprehensive overview on basic effects related to superconductivity and superconducting materials will expand their knowledge and understanding of both low and high Tc superconductors with respect to their application. Technology, preparation and characterization are covered for bulk, single crystals, thins fi lms as well as electronic devices, wires and tapes. The main benefit of this work lies in its broad coverage of significant ap...

String-Math 2022

This is a proceedings volume from the String-Math conference which took place at the University of Warsaw in 2022. This 12th String-Math conference focused on several research areas actively developing these days. They included generalized (categorical) symmetries in quantum field theory and their relation to topological phases of matter; formal aspects of quantum field theory, in particular twisted holography; various developments in supersymmetric gauge theories, BPS counting and Donaldson–Thomas invariants. Other topics discussed at this conference included new advances in Gromov–Witten theory, curve counting, and Calabi–Yau manifolds. Another broad topic concerned algebraic aspects of conformal field theory, vertex operator algebras, and quantum groups. Furthermore, several other recent developments were presented during the conference, such as understanding the role of operator algebras in the presence of gravity, derivation of gauge-string duality, complexity of black holes, or mathematical aspects of the amplituhedron. This proceedings volume contains articles summarizing 14 conference lectures, devoted to the above topics.
