Es gibt gute Gründe, die Fragen zur Geschichte des Katholizismus in der Zwischenkriegszeit neu zu stellen: Welche gesellschaftliche Verfassung, welche staatliche, politische Ordnungsvorstellung, welche sozialpolitischen Modelle wurden favorisiert? Welche Intentionen verfolgten die Aufbruchsbewegungen in den ostmittel- und südosteuropäischen Ländern? In welchem Spannungskontext standen sie zu Kirche und Gesellschaft? In den Jahren zwischen den beiden Weltkriegen deutete sich ein selbstverantwortetes, plurales Denken innerhalb der Katholischen Kirche an, das nicht nur im Nationalitätenkampf (unter dieser Perspektive wird die Zwischenkriegszeit oftmals fokussiert!) Identität stiften und bestärken half. Es stellt sich die Frage, ob das vielfach benutzte Modell des "katholischen Milieus" für diese Regionen Erklärungsrelevanz hat - oder ob dort nicht andere Faktoren, stärker als religiöse und konfessionelle Motive, zur Milieubildung beitrugen.--

Wie wird Empathie zur Bewältigung des Tabu(bruch)s oder einer temporären Tabuaufhebung eingesetzt? Können Tabus beim Beobachter oder Leser Empathie induzieren (oder blockieren) und Tabuschwellen verändern? Die Autoren dieses Bandes stellen Konzepte, Funktionen und Wirkungsweisen von Empathie und Tabu(bruch) in brisanten lebensweltlichen Konstellationen vor.
