Pope Saint Gregory the Great
The Monastery of Christ in the Desert in Abiquiu, New Mexico, presents biographical information about Pope Saint Gregory the Great (ca. 540-604). Gregory created a papal system that lasted through the Middle Ages and was Pope from 590 to 604. The saint was canonized in 604 and later named a Doctor of the Church. Gregory is also known for his role in the creation of the musical form that came to be known as Gregorian Chant.
