Vox in Excelso
'Vox in Excelso' is the name of a bull issued by Pope Clement V on March 22, 1312. The directives given within the papal bull were to formally dissolve the Order of the Knights Templar, effectively removing papal support for them and revoking their papal charter and mandates given to them by previous popes. All properties that they have are forfeited to various agencies as dispensed by the church.

The fourteenth century heralded a new stage in the history of the Church, when papal rule was forced to find new patterns of cooperation with emerging national states. The Avignon pontificate of Clement V (1305-14) found a compromise among conflicting interests, and thus paved the way for the Church in the modern era. In contrast to the characterization of the Avignon period as the "Babylonian captivity" of the papacy, this book offers a new evaluation of Clement's reign, the goals of papal policy, and its evaluation by contempories.

The proceedings against the Templars in the British Isles: The translation
In October 1307 all the brothers of the military religious Order of the Temple in France were arrested on the instructions of King Philip IV and charged with heresy. In November, Pope Clement V instructed King Edward II of England to do likewise. These two volumes provide the first full edition and translation of the four surviving texts of the trial proceedings that followed in Britain and Ireland. Detailed introductions to each volume describe the manuscripts and how the material was compiled and arranged, and discuss the course of the proceedings and the value of the evidence they contain.
