Llestri Cymreig

A concise guide to Welsh pottery. The jugs, figurines and kitchen vessels used by our great grandparents are just as desirable today as when they were originally created. Evocative of a simpler bygone age, with their depictions of local places, famous personalities, pastoral scenes, castles, and cheerful patterns, these pieces were produced prolifically in the late 18th century.

This book was written over thirty years ago and has become almost legendary as the lost masterpiece on the wares of the South Wales potteries. It was compiled in the early 1970s and built on the author's catalogue of the Swansea pottery in the Kildare Meager Bequest in the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery (1967), his article on 'Early Swansea wares up to 1810', published in The Transactions of the English Ceramic Circle in 1968 and his input into the Swansea Pottery Bi-Centenary exhibition of the same year. "The pottery of South Wales" systematises and presents a deep knowledge and love of the subject over many years as Honorary Curator of Ceramics in the Royal Institute of South Wales, now the Swansea Museum.
