Prof. Dr. Arif ÜNAL, 01.04.1953 tarihinde (nüfus kâğıdında böyle yazılsa da gerçekte 04.02.1953 tarihinde), Konya’ya bağlı Bozkır ilçesinin Armutlu Köyü’nde dünyaya gelmiştir. 12 kardeşi olan Arif Ünal, ailesinin 6. çocuğudur. 02.11.1980 tarihinde Nursel Hanım’la dünya evine giren Ünal, ikisi erkek biri kız olmak üzere üç evlat ve dört torun sahibidir. 30 yıllık evli olan çiftin ilk çocuğu ve ailenin büyük oğlu olan Salih Ünal, evli olup iki çocuk sahibidir ve Pendik Belediyesi bünyesinde Avukatlık mesleğini yapmaktadır.
