This handbook is the next volume in the series of the scientific and educational publications of the European Society of Preventive, Regenerative and Anti-Aging Medicine. To promote the development of the science and practice of anti-ageing and active longevity, ESAAM has published in 2023 the Handbook of Anti-Aging Medicine. This cornerstone book was devoted to main theoretical issues in combating the mechanisms of aging. Current handbook provides the basics of practical life extension protocols. Leading specialists in regenerative and longevity medicine presented their valuable recommendations. Special attention is paid to the fundamental principles of the longevity clinic, as well as prac...
People around the world are living longer. For the first time in history, most humans will live to be sixty and beyond. By 2050, the world's population aged 60 and over will reach a total of 2 billion, up from 900 million in 2015. Today, 125 million people are 80 years of age or older. By 2050, there will be 434 million people in this age group worldwide. In addition, the pace of aging of the world population is also increasing. However, there is not enough evidence to show that older people have better health than their parents. While rates of severe disability have declined over the past 30 years (but only in high-income countries), there have been no significant changes in mild to moderate disability over the same period of time. Indeed, the increase in the duration of life (lifespan) does not coincide with the increase in the duration of health (healthspan), that is, the period of life free from serious chronic diseases and disabilities. Therefore, the identification of the factors that predispose to a long and healthy life, as discussed in the papers of this book, is of enormous interest for translational medicine.
Advances in Inorganic Chemistry presents timely and informative summaries of the current progress in a variety of subject areas within inorganic chemistry, ranging from bioinorganic to solid state. This acclaimed serial features reviews written by experts in the area and is an indispensable reference to advanced researchers. Each volume of Advances in Inorganic Chemistry contains an index, and each chapter is fully referenced.
Assembling a program in bioinorganic chemistry that is scientifi cally relevant, well defined, and self-consistent is not an easy task. In this attempt we decided to consider zinc enzymes, copper oxidases, cytochromes and cytochrome oxidase. The choice is in part due to the great attention that the current specialized literature devotes to these topics, which are now debated among chemists, biochemists, biophysicists, etc .. We believe that hydration reactions, hydrolytic and oxidative processes have much in common from the point of view of the reaction mechanisms, the comprehension of which represents a frontier of science. For these reasons these topics have been the subject of the NATO-AS...
Intelligent Computational Systems presents current and future developments in intelligent computational systems in a multi-disciplinary context. Readers will learn about the pervasive and ubiquitous roles of artificial intelligence (AI) and gain a perspective about the need for intelligent systems to behave rationally when interacting with humans in complex and realistic domains. This reference covers widespread applications of AI discussed in 11 chapters which cover topics such as AI and behavioral simulations, AI schools, automated negotiation, language analysis and learning, financial prediction, sensor management, Multi-agent systems, and much more. This reference work is will assist researchers, advanced-level students and practitioners in information technology and computer science fields interested in the broad applications of AI.
Bipolar disorder can be devastating. It can disrupt relationships and careers, it can wreak havoc on family life, and, when not properly treated, it can be fatal. Since 1999 this compassionate and comprehensive guide has helped tens of thousands of people cope with this complex disease. This, the second edition of Bipolar Disorder, is thoroughly updated and discusses promising new options for diagnosis and treatment along with new information on the disease's genetic components. Bipolar disorder is difficult to diagnose. Dr. Mondimore explains how symptoms fluctuate in persons with seasonal affective disorder, how they can lead to a mistaken diagnosis of attention deficit–hyperactivity dis...
These volumes of Copper Proteins and Copper Enzymes are intended to describe the contemporary spectroscopy and other biophysical chemistry now being applied to copper proteins in order to determine the structures of their active sites. Several chapters of the treatise describe the functional understanding which is emerging from the new work. The authors are all major contributors to research progress on copper proteins and the volumes will be found to be definitive and authoritative.
