This issue of the Ceramic Transactions compiles 41 papers covering a rich diversity of the sintering science and technology topics. These papers were presented at the International Conference on Sintering, November 16-20, 2008 in La Jolla, California. The Ceramic Transactions series contains a collection of papers dealing with issues in both traditional ceramics (i.e., glass, whitewares, refractories, and porcelain enamel) and advanced ceramics. Topics covered in the area of advanced ceramic include bioceramics, nanomaterials, composites, solid oxide fuel cells, mechanical properties and structural design, advanced ceramic coatings, ceramic armor, porous ceramics, and more.
This publication provides an excellent one-stop resource for understanding the most important current issues in the research and advances in sintering science and technology.
This book details the forum that was held by the National Materials Advisory Board at the National Academy of Sciences. The purpose of this forum was to bring the importance of materials to the attention of policy makers and to promote interactions between policy makers and the materials community. Four key themes were addressed: the critical role of materials in advancing technology and enhancing the nation's economy, security, and health, industrial and societal needs that will require materials development in the new millennium. Materials research areas with the greatest potential for meeting those needs, and federal and industrial research initiatives that can help the materials community meet those needs. To help focus this discussion, special sessions were convened to address the current and future roles of materials in four selected areas: information technology, health and biotechnology, national security, and energy and the environment.
Biomaterials as a research theme is highly socially relevant with impactful applications in human healthcare. In this context, this book provides a state-of-the-art perspective on biomaterials research in India and globally. It presents a sketch of the Indian landscape against the backdrop of the international developments in biomaterials research. Furthermore, this book presents highlights from major global institutes of importance, and challenges and recommendations for bringing inventions from the bench to the bedside. It also presents valuable information to those interested in existing issues pertaining to developing the biomaterials research ecosystem in developing countries. The contents also serve to inspire and educate young researchers and students to take up research challenges in the areas of biomaterials, biomedical implants, and regenerative medicine. With key recommendations for developing frontier research and policy, it also speaks to science administrators, policymakers, industry experts, and entrepreneurs on helping shape the future of biomaterials research and development.
Selected, peer reviewed papers from the 6th Annual Meeting on Testing and Evaluation of Advanced Materials, April 23-25, 2015, Chengdu, China
Contains the 15 papers presented at the November 1998 symposium sponsored by the materials division of the ASME. The papers are nearly equally divided between the two broad areas of structure-to- property characterization and foam processing. The topics addressed include acoustic, tensile, impact, fracture, and creep behavior of foams. The issues addressed in processing include measurement of gas solubility, approaches to foaming PET, extrusion of microcellular foams and polyethylene foams, and evaluation of blowing agent performance. Two papers discuss the emerging role of porous polymers in biomaterials research. No subject index. Annotation copyrighted by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
