Poems and Ponderings

POEMS AND PONDERINGS by Randall Reyman is a quirky pseudo-autobiographical mosaic of some of the author's more peculiar experiences that have shaped his life. From the mundane to the bizarre, these witty and often disjunct yarns cover a wide range of topics from wind turbines to chipmunk infestation, Harley-Davidsons to honeysuckle abatement, phallic envy to women explained. Presented in poem and prose form, this collection may make you smile or perhaps make you shed a tear, but it will surely keep you entertained.

These exercises are intended to help the serious musician internalize the vocabulary of music that comprises most jazz and classical genres today. They will not only enhance one's fluency with the various musical elements, but they will also help develop the ear, an important aspect that has been glaringly absent from many current pedagogical approaches. the young musician may find these exercises challenging at first, but patience and diligence on the part of the serious student will be rewarded with a strong fundamental knowledge of the basics of music. Mel Bay Presents the Jazz Trumpet Primer

This book is for the music student who has had little exposure to jazz. It is intended as an introduction to jazz style and elementary improvisation, and attempts to help students "get their feet wet" without confronting a deluge of jazz theory and scale material. One of the basic goals of this text is to increase aural abilities and reliance on musical intuition, thus enabling the student to become independent of the written page. It is hoped that, by being freed from written notation, the student will begin to draw upon innate musical skills, become more expressive in playing music, whether it is notated or not. The first section of the text shows many examples of the difference between how jazz lines are notated and how they are played, and gives twenty phrases to practice. The second section gives several phrases for "call and response" ear training. Part three contains several blues patterns for the student to practice improvising over. Everything you need to get started playing jazz is here! This proven method enables intermediate-level band students to phrase jazz correctly.
