This book is based on the author’s varied experience: • Missile design and management at RAFAEL, the Israeli Armament De- velopment Authority, • Teaching and research projects carried out by his graduate students and himself in Israel (Technion and Tel Aviv universities), the US (University of California, Berkeley) and Canada (Mc-Gill University), • His experience as consultant in Israel for 34 start-ups and high-tech companies. Through his courses the author provided his students the foundation for future careers, as many of them have become leading figures in Israeli high- tech industries. The book is structured as a textbook for students in Mechanical or Aero- nautical engineering, but it can also be used as a reference book for engineers working in related fields.
Focusing on Oriental Jews and their relations with their Arab neighbors in Mandatory Palestine, this book analyzes the meaning of the hybrid Arab-Jewish identity that existed among Oriental Jews, and discusses their unique role as political, social, and cultural mediators between Jews and Arabs. Integrating Mandatory Palestine and its inhabitants into the contemporary Semitic-Levantine surroundings, Oriental Neighbors illuminates broad areas of cooperation and coexistence, which coincided with conflict and friction, between Oriental and Sephardi Jews and their Arab neighbors. The book brings the Oriental Jewish community to the fore, examines its role in the Zionist nation-building process, and studies its diverse and complex links with the Arab community in Palestine.

How and why did dance develop in such a way? Dance Spreads Its Wings is the first and only book that looks at the whole picture of concert dance in Israel studying the growth of Israeli concert dance for 90 years—starting from 1920, when there was no concert dance to speak of during the Yishuv (pre-Israel Jewish settlements) period, until 2010, when concert dance in Israel had grown to become one of the country’s most prominent, original, artistic fields and globally recognized. What drives the book is the impulse to create and the need to dance in the midst of constant political change. It is the story of artists trying to be true to their art while also responding to the political, social, religious, and ethnic complexities of a Jewish state in the Middle East.
