Joseph Saunders was born 8 January 1712/13 in Franham Royal, Buckinghamshire, England. His parents were Joseph Saunders and Susannah Child. He emigrated in 1732 and settled in Pennsylvania. He married Hannah Reeve, daughter of John Reeve and Sarah Pattison, 8 January 1740/41. They had eleven children. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in Pennsylvania, Virginia, Louisiana, Texas, California, Australia and New Zealand.
