Applications of Intelligent Systems
The deployment of intelligent systems to tackle complex processes is now commonplace in many fields from medicine and agriculture to industry and tourism. This book presents scientific contributions from the 1st International Conference on Applications of Intelligent Systems (APPIS 2018) held at the Museo Elder in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain, from 10 to 12 January 2018. The aim of APPIS 2018 was to bring together scientists working on the development of intelligent computer systems and methods for machine learning, artificial intelligence, pattern recognition, and related techniques with an emphasis on their application to various problems. The 34 peer-reviewed papers included here cover an extraordinarily wide variety of topics – everything from semi-supervised learning to matching electro-chemical sensor information with human odor perception – but what they all have in common is the design and application of intelligent systems and their role in tackling diverse and complex challenges. The book will be of particular interest to all those involved in the development and application of intelligent systems.
Image Analysis and Processing - ICIAP 2017
The two-volume set LNCS 10484 and 10485 constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 19th International Conference on Image Analysis and Processing, ICIAP 2017, held in Catania, Italy, in September 2017. The 138 papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 229 submissions. The papers cover both classic and the most recent trends in image processing, computer vision, and pattern recognition, addressing both theoretical and applicative aspects. Computer Vision, Imaging and Computer Graphics Theory and Applications
This book constitutes the referred proceedings of the 17th International Joint Conference on Computer Vision, Imaging and Computer Graphics Theory and Applications, VISIGRAPP 2022, Virtual Event, February 6–8, 2022. The 15 full papers included in this book were carefully reviewed and selected from 392 submissions. The purpose of VISIGRAPP is to bring together researchers and practitioners interested in both theoretical advances and applications of computer vision, computer graphics and information visualization. Innovative Wastewater Treatment & Resource Recovery Technologies: Impacts on Energy, Economy and Environment
This book introduces the 3R concept applied to wastewater treatment and resource recovery under a double perspective. Firstly, it deals with innovative technologies leading to: Reducing energy requirements, space and impacts; Reusing water and sludge of sufficient quality; and Recovering resources such as energy, nutrients, metals and chemicals, including biopolymers. Besides targeting effective C,N&P removal, other issues such as organic micropollutants, gases and odours emissions are considered. Most of the technologies analysed have been tested at pilot- or at full-scale. Tools and methods for their Economic, Environmental, Legal and Social impact assessment are described. The 3R concept is also applied to Innovative Processes design, considering different levels of innovation: Retrofitting, where novel units are included in more conventional processes; Re-Thinking, which implies a substantial flowsheet modification; and Re-Imagining, with completely new conceptions. Tools are presented for Modelling, Optimising and Selecting the most suitable plant layout for each particular scenario from a holistic technical, economic and environmental point of view.

This continuation of a series of comprehensive chronological reference works lists the results of men's chess competitions all over the world--individual and team matches. The present volume covers 1971 through 1974. Entries record location and, when available, the group that sponsored the event. First and last names of players are included whenever possible and are standardized for easy reference. Compiled from contemporary sources such as newspapers, periodicals, tournament records and match books, this work contains 966 tournament cross tables and 148 match scores, and is indexed by events and by players.
Amnesties, Pardons and Transitional Justice
In a consolidated democracy, amnesties and pardons do not sit well with equality and a separation of powers; however, these measures have proved useful in extreme circumstances, such as transitions from dictatorships to democracies, as has occurred in Greece, Portugal and Spain.
