Jane Boleyn

A fascinating debut biography of Jane Boleyn, the lady-in-waiting who witnessed and survived Henry VIII’s perilous reign, until she too became a victim. In a life of extraordinary drama, Jane Boleyn was catapulted from the obscurity of the English countryside to the forefront of Henry VIII’s spectacular court, as lady-in-waiting to not just one, but five of Henry’s wives. Always at the centre of court life and intrigue, Jane attended the parties, the masque balls, and the jousts, and participated in the royal births, the weddings, the funerals, and the personal drama that swirled around the king, his wives, and their courtiers. As Henry’s wives rose and then fell, taking so many down...

Only Willoughby Tetford, the American self-made millionaire, was shrewd enough to have any misgivings when his beautiful daughter, Willow, married the handsome English aristocrat. Willow herself, seventeen, innocent and deeply in love with her new husband, Rowell Rochford, had complete trust and confidence in the future as she arrived at Rochford Manor in England. And when Rowell's matriarchal French grandmother handed her the keys of the house and told she was the new Chatelaine, Willow believed she held the keys not only to the multitude of rooms of which she was now the mistress but also to love and happiness. On her arrival, she is greeted warmly by her four brothers-in-law: Tony, quiet and studious; Pelham, teasing and flirtatious, the spoilt Francis and the sensitive Rupert. But she has no inkling of the obsession which grips old Lady Rochford because of events in the past to which she, Willow is ignorant. Nor does she realise the terrible repercussions the obsession will have on her own life.

A History of Ashingdon & South Fambridge

Ashingdon and South Fambridge are two neighbouring historic parishes in the Rochford District of south-east Essex which have now been united into one. Stone Age finds have been made in South Fambridge, while Ashingdon Road is likely to be Roman. The 1016 Battle of Assandun, fought between the rival kings, Edmund Ironside and Cnut, may have taken place in the locality and both settlements are mentioned in the Domesday Book. Ashingdon is now the more dominant of the two. Originating from a network of ancient farms and manor houses, it was transformed into a modern settlement following extensive development in the 20th century. South Fambridge is a relatively rural riverside village, once home to the Fambridge Ferry and the unlikely location for Britain’s first airfield in 1909. The two parishes’ histories and evolution are intertwined, which is why they have been presented together. This is the most comprehensive book about the two parishes that has ever been written. Thoroughly researched and properly footnoted, it is likely to become the standard work on Ashingdon and South Fambridge for many decades to come.
