Multiple Model Approaches To Nonlinear Modelling And Control

  • Type: Book

  • Publisher: CRC Press

This work presents approaches to modelling and control problems arising from conditions of ever increasing nonlinearity and complexity. It prescribes an approach that covers a wide range of methods being combined to provide multiple model solutions. Many component methods are described, as well as discussion of the strategies available for building a successful multiple model approach.

Haptic Human-Computer Interaction

Haptic human-computer interaction is interaction between a human computer user and the computer user interface based on the powerful human sense of touch. Haptic hardware has been discussed and exploited for some time, particularly in the context of computer games. However, so far, little attention has been paid to the general principles of haptic HCI and the systematic use of haptic devices for improving efficiency, effectiveness, and satisfaction in HCI. This book is the first one to focus on haptic human-computer interaction. It is based on a workshop held in Glasgow, UK, in August / September 2000. The 22 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 35 submissions. Besides a brief historic survey, the book offers topical sections on haptic interfaces for blind people, collaborative haptics, psychological issues and measurement, and applications of haptics.

Essential C# fast

A quick and practical introduction to the C# programming language. The text includes complete programing examples that highlight the core features of this language. In this book you will learn about: Using C# with a traditional compile run cycle, using C# within the Developer Studio environment, different data types supported in C#, control structures and input and output (i/o) in C#, key features of C# and their relationship to C, C++, Java and other programming languages.

Towards Practical Brain-Computer Interfaces

Towards Practical Brain-Computer Interfaces

Brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) are devices that enable people to communicate via thought alone. Brain signals can be directly translated into messages or commands. Until recently, these devices were used primarily to help people who could not move. However, BCIs are now becoming practical tools for a wide variety of people, in many different situations. What will BCIs in the future be like? Who will use them, and why? This book, written by many of the top BCI researchers and developers, reviews the latest progress in the different components of BCIs. Chapters also discuss practical issues in an emerging BCI enabled community. The book is intended both for professionals and for interested laypeople who are not experts in BCI research.

This book constitutes the proceedings of the third International Workshop on Symbiotic Interaction, Symbiotic 2014, held in Helsinki, Finland, in October 2014. The 8 full papers and 5 short papers presented in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from 16 submissions. They are organized in topical sections named: definitions of symbiotic interaction; reviews of implicit interaction; example applications; experimenting with users; and demos and posters.

This monograph opens up new horizons for engineers and researchers in academia and in industry dealing with or interested in new developments in the field of system identification and control. It emphasizes guidelines for working solutions and practical advice for their implementation rather than the theoretical background of Gaussian process (GP) models. The book demonstrates the potential of this recent development in probabilistic machine-learning methods and gives the reader an intuitive understanding of the topic. The current state of the art is treated along with possible future directions for research. Systems control design relies on mathematical models and these may be developed fro...

Sonic Interaction Design

An overview of emerging topics, theories, methods, and practices in sonic interactive design, with a focus on the multisensory aspects of sonic experience. Sound is an integral part of every user experience but a neglected medium in design disciplines. Design of an artifact's sonic qualities is often limited to the shaping of functional, representational, and signaling roles of sound. The interdisciplinary field of sonic interaction design (SID) challenges these prevalent approaches by considering sound as an active medium that can enable novel sensory and social experiences through interactive technologies. This book offers an overview of the emerging SID research, discussing theories, meth...

Location and Context Awareness

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 4th International Symposium on Location and Context Awareness, LoCA 2009, held in Tokyo, Japan, in May 2009. The 18 revised full papers presented were carefully selected from 77 submissions. The papers describe original, previously unpublished research results, including new hardware platforms for sensing location and context, machine learning techniques for inferring user location and context from low-level sensor data, location and context representation, management, and distribution, and privacy policies and communication protocols for location and context information.

MobileHCI is a forum for academics and practitioners to discuss the challenges and potential solutions for e?ective human-computer interaction with mobile systems and services. It covers the design, evaluation and application of te- niques and approaches for all mobile computing devices and services. MobileHCI 2004 was the sixth in the series of conferences that was started at Glasgow U- versity in 1998 by Chris Johnson. We previously chaired the conference in 1999 in Edinburgh (as part of INTERACT 1999) and in 2001 in Lille (as part of IHM-HCI 2001). The last two years saw the conference move to Italy, ?rst - der the chairmanship of Fabio Patern` o in Pisa then under Luca Chittaro in Udine....
